NEW HAVEN, CONN. – The New Haven women's basketball team survived a close game against the Georgian Court Lions, thanks to a last second shot by
Aurora Deshaies (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden) to give the Chargers a 76-74 victory at Moore Field House on Sunday. Deshaies led the offense with a dominant performance, ending with a 23 point-16 rebound double-double off 11-18 shooting.
Camryn DeBose (Wellington, Fla./Wellington Community)Â followed yesterday's game with another strong showing, putting up 22 points, four rebounds and two assists.
Brie Pergola (Torrington, Conn./Torrington) scored 13 points for the second-straight game and tallied six assists and three rebounds.
Bionca Chambers (Bronx, N.Y./New Milford) joined Deshaies, DeBose and Pergola as the only Chargers to score double digit points in the contest, adding 11 off 3-9 shooting.
Briana Van Cleaf (Staten Island, N.Y./Notre Dame Academy)Â was held scoreless but contributed on the glass with six rebounds, including two on offense.
As a whole, the squad shot 26-59 (44.1%) from the field, while going 2-4 (50%) from beyond the arc. Free throws made the difference today for the Chargers, in a game that saw nine lead changes, drawing 35 attempts and making 22 (62.9%). The defense forced 25 turnovers, led by
Luzdali Ocasio (Davenport, Fla./New Hampton) who racked up four steals, converting those 25 turnovers into 25 points. The defense finished the game with two blocks and eight steals.
The Chargers controlled the paint, outscoring the Lions 40-26 in the post and 22-14 in the second half. Neither bench was very much a factor but the Chargers were able to get seven points from their's as opposed to Georgian Court, who had five. The Lions scored 23 points off second chance opportunities and 15 points on fast breaks, while the Chargers scored 16 and 6, respectively.

FIRST QUARTER
- Deshaies led the Chargers with six points, while Pergola and Debose each had five
- Pergola and Debose each hit a three-pointer in the quarter, the only two that the team would make in the game.
- The Lions outscored the Chargers, 25-23 while shooting 10-15 (66.6%) as opposed to New Haven's 9-15 (60%).
- Georgian Court started the game hot from beyond the arc, making 4-8 (50%) three-point attempts.
- Ocasio filled the stat line in the first, tallying two points, a rebound, an assist, and a steal.
- Pergola ended the quarter with two assists while DeBose had two rebounds.

SECOND QUARTER
- New Haven was outscored again 18-14 as the second quarter was the Charger's lowest scoring, going 5-17 (29.4%) from the field.
- Deshaies led the team with another six points, while adding two offensive rebounds.
- Pergola added another five points to her total, going 3-4 from the line, while also adding three boards.
- DeBose ended the quarter with two points and Ocasio finished with one.
- Van Cleaf was credited with two rebounds and a steal during the quarter.
- The Lions went 8-18 (44.4%) and 2-6 (33.3%) from three.
- The defense stayed disciplined, not allowing any free throw attempts in the quarter.
- A last second basket from Deshaies before the half cut the deficit from nine to seven.
- The Chargers shot 43.7Â percent in the first half, making 14Â baskets on 32Â attempts.
THIRD QUARTER
- The Chargers saw a combination of six different players make baskets.
- Bionca Chambers (Bronx, N.Y./New Milford) led scorers with seven points, while making 3-4 free throws.
- Deshaies put up six points for the third straight quarter, in addition to seven total rebounds, including three on offense.
- Pergola ended the quarter with one point, going 1-2 from the line, but assisted on three baskets.
- Gabrielle Stickle (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) sunk a pair of free throws for her first career points as a Charger.
- Defense started to take shape, holding the Lion to 5-15 (33.3%) shooting, while tallying a block and three steals as a team.
- Chambers's fast break layup with 5 minutes and 51 seconds left in the quarter gave the Charger's their first lead of the game since early in the first.
- A DeBose free throw with three seconds left to cut the Lion's lead to five.
FOURTH QUARTER
- DeBose took over in the fourth quarter with 10 points, including four free throws, an assist, a rebound and a steal.
- Deshaies was hot in the paint, scoring five points, including the game-winner, and pulling down four rebounds.
- Pergola and Chambers each scored two points in the fourth, as well.
- The Chargers outscore the Lions, 21-14, in the final quarter of play, shooting 6-13 (46.15%).
- The team drew 12 free throw attempts and made nine of them, brining their free throw conversion to 63 percent.
- The defense held the Lions to 5-17 (29.4%) shooting and 2-7 (28.6%) from the three.
