FULL NORTHEAST-10 RELEASE
MANSFIELD, Mass. – Following up on its most successful season in program history, four University of New Haven field hockey players are bringing home some bronze after all were named to All-Conference teams by the Northeast-10 Conference. Leading the way are seniors Taylor Geaglone (Enfield, Conn./Enfield) and Alexis Rider (Delran, N.J./Delran) who each earned a spot on the All-Conference Second Team, while senior Sophie Schreck (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) picked up a Third Team accolade and freshman Abby Nixon (Wrentham, Mass./King Phillip Regional) earns a spot on the All-Rookie squad.
Rider and Geaglone are each coming off of knocking in a pair of penalty strokes in a shootout last night in the opening round of the NE10 Championship as they Blue and Gold advanced to the semifinal round with a victory over second seeded Bentley. A combination forward/midfielder, Rider entered the postseason with a dozen points, coming on five goals and a pair of assists. Geaglone, who spends most of her time on the defensive side of the ball, adds a pair of goal and three assists for seven points.
Along with Rider, Schreck is among the team-leaders offensively as she stands second on the team with 14 points on six goals and two assists, with two of those tallies credited as game winners. With her appearance on the All-Rookie Team, Nixon joins both Rider and Geaglone who began their career with the accolade. The attack vaulted herself into the team lead in the scoring column when she finished with six points in a recent win over Mercy. For the season, Nixon has scored seven goals and assisted on five others for 19 points.
