Season Comes to End for Men's Soccer in 3-2 Quarterfinals Loss Against No. 2 AIC

SPRINGFIELD, MASS. - The University of New Haven men's soccer team came short of the hardware to end their 2021 season, a 3-2 loss in the NE10 Quarterfinals to the American International Yellow Jackets at Ronald J. Abdow Field on Saturday, Nov. 16

After finding themselves down a goal in the 37th minute, Charger's Adam Lindstrom (Orbero, Sweden/Grillska Gymnasiet) scored an unassisted goal to even it up.

The freshman midfielder tallied two goals and an assist during the regular season.

Samir Regragui's five points secured the victory for the Yellow Jackets but Christian Lombardo (Milford, Conn./Notre Dame) was able to score an unassisted goal at the 67 minute mark to keep the game within reach.

Pau Santanach's (Barcelona, Spain/Collegi CreaNova) impressive rookie season comes to an end with 16 goals and four assists on the year. Santanach ranked first in the NE10 in goals scored and in total points.

Graduate student Tano Desseno (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Saint Patrick College) will end his career at New Haven after tying for second in the conference in assists (7).

Freshman goalkeeper Themis Kastoris (Gothenburg, Sweden/Kitas Gymnasiet) made five saves in between the posts. Kastoris ended the season with 64 saves, which places him fourth in the conference.

For the first time since 2000, New Haven ended the season with a winning record, finishing with an 8-6-2 record. The team finished with a 5-5-2 record in conference play, while earning 17 points.

The Chargers ended the year with 38 goals scored as a team, third most in the conference.

The Semifinals will begin on Wednesday Nov. 10, as AIC awaits the winner of Franklin Pierce/Southern Connecticut State before knowing who they'll play.
