BOX SCORE

WEST HAVEN, Conn. - Senior Lilia Rodriguez (Bayamon, Puerto Rico/Colegio Marista) prevailed with her second win of the season as women's tennis dropped Thursday's match to defending conference champion, Stonehill 4-1.

Rodriguez earned the victory in straight sets 7-6, 6-2 and won the tiebreak in the first set 7-4, for the lone point for the Blue and Gold on the day.

New Haven earned one more victory in the match, that coming by a 6-3 decision at first doubles with the pairing of senior Stephanie Gonzalez (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico/Academia Maria Reina) and graduate student Ivana Andric (Griesheim, Germany) earning the win. For Andric, she has now earned at least one victory in each of her first three matches this season. The Skyhawks would take the second and third doubles by scored of 6-2 and 7-5, respectively, to earn the doubles point for the visitors.

After dropping the fifth and third singles matches in that order, Rodriguez would get the win in her match to keep play going, with Stonehill needing one more win to clinch the match.

Stonehill would earn the victory after taking the second singles match 6-4, 6-3, at a time where New Haven was threatening in the remaining two matches.

In singles play, Andric dropped her set at first singles 6-3 before staging a comeback 5-3, while sophomore Kacie Banks (Marietta, Ga./Marietta) was one game away from notching the Chargers second point of the afternoon when the Skyhawks clinched and play was stopped.

Next up, the New Haven women's tennis team will travel to Syracuse, N.Y. for a Sunday afternoon meeting with Le Moyne College. First serve between the Chargers and the Dolphins is set for 3:00 p.m.
