Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Acquavita's Seven Points Leads No. 16 Women's Lacrosse Past Saint Rose 17-5

ALBANY, N.Y. - Five goals and a pair of assists from the stick of sophomore attack Annie Acquavita (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire) helped lead the No. 16 New Haven women's lacrosse team to a 17-5 victory over the College of Saint Rose Wednesday afternoon. With the win the Chargers move to 4-4 on the season, sweeping the two game series with the Golden Knights.

THE LEADERS
The Blue and Gold spread the wealth all day with seven different players reaching the back of the net alongside Acquavita. Junior Marina Skelly (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Connetquot) finished with four goals, surpassing 50 goals for her career, as she now stands at 53.

Senior Emily Holland (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) and freshman Cypress Levitt (Calais, Vt./Montpelier) finished with three points apiece, off two goals and a helper. Four other Chargers netted a single goal on the afternoon, capped off by freshman Helena Koch (Groton, Mass./Groton-Dunstable Regional) who scored the first goal of her collegiate career.

Between the pipes freshman Fabi McLeod (Concord, N.H./Cheshire Academy) earned the start for New Haven stopping eight shots while only allowing five goals on the day. In the draw circle, Levitt led the way with seven controls, while graduate Raven Linton (Lawrenceville, N.J./Notre Dame) added four.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Blue and Gold came out of the gates firing, with senior Mary Rishmany (Tiverton, R.I./Bishop Stang) opening the scoring just 43 second into the game with a free position goal. After New Haven opened up a five goal lead in the opening eight minutes of play, Saint Rose's Daria Bock earned one back to break the shutout and cut the deficit to four.

From there, the Chargers would tack on five of the last seven goals in the opening period, with Acquavita either scoring or assisting on three of the last four. The Golden Knights would add a pair late to cut into the UNH lead and go into halftime with the visitors up 10-3.

The streaks would continue out of the break for New Haven as they would score the first four goals in the second stanza, including a player-up goal for Skelly, followed by her second straight off an assist from junior Julia Astram (Milford, Conn./Milford).

Saint Rose would get a pair of goals back via the stick of Kaitlyn Jolly, before the Chargers closed the game with three more from Holland, freshman Kyra Sparks (Jefferson, N.J./Jefferson Township), and the final goal from Koch with four seconds left to play.
