Four Chargers Earn All-Conference Honors for Women's Tennis

MANSFIELD, Mass. - The Northeast-10 has announced the end of season awards for women's tennis, with four Chargers earning all-conference recognition.
Graduate Ivana Andric (Griesheim, Germany) was tied with Franklin Pierce's Maria Penalver Aguilo for the second-team award at No. 1 Singles. The Chargers No. 3 doubles tandem of sophomore Alexa Orlando (Frederick, Md./Middletown) and senior Lilia Rodriguez (Bayamon, Puerto Rico/Colegio Marista) took home third-team honors in that position. Freshman Abby Murphy (Southington, Conn./Southington) rounds out the honors for New Haven as she earned a spot on the all-rookie team.

In her first season with the Blue and Gold Andric finished the 2021 campaign with a record of 7-1 with her lone defeat coming in the season opener against St. Thomas Aquinas. Her seven wins in singles play led the team and came in addition to seven wins in doubles play this season.

Orlando and Rodriguez combined for a pair of wins during the regular season against Le Moyne and Assumption. Orlando also added two other doubles wins with different partners, along with a pair of singles victories. Rodriguez would add four solo wins to her season total, which was second most on the team.

Murphy's award comes following her rookie season where she went a combined 3-1 in singles and doubles play, with her first collegiate victory coming on Apr. 2 with a 6-0 win with Orlando in the doubles round. She followed that with a pair of victories the very next day with a singles and doubles win against American International.

The award winners will help lead the New Haven women's tennis team Wednesday afternoon when they travel to Stonehill College for the opening round of the 2021 Northeast-10 Conference Championships. First serve is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. with box scores available at NewHavenChargers.com at the conclusion of the match.
