Women's Tennis Falls to Stonehill 4-1 in NE10 Quarterfinals

EASTON, Mass. - With a pair of wins in the doubles rounds, the New Haven women's tennis team earned a single point on the afternoon as they fell 4-1 to Stonehill College in the Northeast-10 Quarterfinals.

The Chargers would get the first win in doubles play from the No. 2 pairing of junior Nicole Mika (Staten Island, N.Y./Laurel Springs) and sophomore Kacie Banks (Marietta, Ga./Marietta) who took down the Skyhawks' Isabelle Porter and Samantha Ormesher 6-2. The other win would come from the No. 3 pairing for the Blue and Gold, the third-team all-conference tandem of senior Lilia Rodriguez (Bayamon, Puerto Rico/Colegio Marista) and sophomore Alexa Orlando (Frederick, Md./Middletown) who took down their opponents 7-5 to clinch the doubles point for the visitors.

Stonehill would win each of the first four singles matches to be completed, with a three set victory at the No. 3 spot to clinch the quarterfinal victory for the two-time defending conference champions.

In the unfinished matches, graduate Ivana Andric (Griesheim, Germany) was up 5-4 in set number two, on the verge of forcing a deciding third set at No. 1 singles. At the No. 6 spot, sophomore Katherine MacPhail (Park City, Utah/Judge Memorial Catholic) was up 5-4 in the third set after coming back from down one, and was about to earn a second point for the Chargers when Stonehill clinched the match.

New Haven concludes the 2021 season with a record of 5-8 (4-5 NE10) in a shortened season due to the CoVID-19 Pandemic. Please check NewHavenChargers.com in early August for the announcement of the Fall 2021 schedule and thank you for your support of the Chargers this season.
