THE LEAD
The University of New Haven men's soccer team will stay home at Kathy Zolad Stadium to host NE-10 conference rival Saint Anselm on Saturday, Sept. 25 at 7:00 PM.
Â
INSIDE THE SERIES
The Chargers and Hawks series is a tightly contested one but Saint Anselm holds a slight 8-6-3 edge over New Haven. The Chargers look to snap a losing streak not only on the season but also in this series. Saint Anselm won the last game 3-2 on Sept. 28, 2019 but the last two times the teams have met, the match went into overtime. The Chargers are 3-2-1 when hosting the Saint Anselm Hawks. Click Here for a complete series history.

SCOUTING THE CHARGERS (3-2, 0-2Â NE10)
The Chargers suffered their second consecutive loss of the season on Wednesday, a 3-2 heartbreaker in double overtime to Adelphi. New Haven enters the matchup with the second most goals scored as a team (18) in the NE-10.
Adding on to his spectacular start to the season, freshman forward Pau Santanach (Barcelona, Spain/Collegi CreaNova) scored his seventh goal on the season, tied for first in the conference. Tano Desseno (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Saint Patrick College) is also tied for first in the NE-10 but for assists (4).
Â
The Chargers continues to take shots, outshooting the Panthers 13-6 (7-4 on goal). New Haven goes into the matchup with 65 total shots (33 on goal), not being outshot in a game this season.
The Charger's freshman goalkeeper Themis Kastoris (Gothenburg, Sweden/Kitas Gymnasiet) added another save for a total of 15 saves on the young season.
Â
SCOUTING THE HAWKSÂ (4-1-0, 2-0Â NE10)
The Hawks finished the 2019 season with a 7-9 record but are off to a great start in 2021 with a 4-1 record (2-0 NE-10). Saint Anselm has outscore opponents 11-2 largely in part to goalkeeper Brian Underhill who has 18 total saves on the year with a 90% save percentage. Saint Anselm was ranked 12th in the NE-10 Preseason Coaches's Poll.
Saint Anselm's lone loss on the year came on the road after finishing the 2019 season with a 2-5 record when away.
The Hawks entered the season boosting a diverse roster composed of nine freshmen, nine sophomores, seven juniors, and six seniors.
Head coach Bruno Victal entered his sixth season with the Saint Anselm Hawks after being announced as only the sixth head coach in program history. Victal holds a 19-43-6 record (12-36-5 NE-10) as the leader of the Hawks.Â
