West Haven, Conn. - The University of New Haven Women's soccer team is going into their final matchup of a three-game home stretch. After the Chargers face Bloomfield, they only have one other non-conference opponent to face, which doesn't occur until mid-October.
Series History
New Haven and Bloomfield have only stepped onto the same field once. In September 2019 the Chargers hosted the Bears when an offensive outburst led New Haven to their first victory of the 2019 season. The Blue and Gold triumphed 5-1 over Bloomfield in what was the highest scoring game of the entire season, and overall since November 2013 against Merrimack College in the quarterfinals of the NE10 Conference Championship.
Scouting the Chargers (2-0, 0-0 NE10)
The Chargers are heading into Wednesday's matchup looking to extend their 2-0 record. In the 2021 Opening Weekend Tournament, New Haven took on two non-conference teams: Post and Georgian Court. In both executions the Chargers defense was lead by goalkeeper Paige Davis (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Coughlin), who allowed only two goals on 29 shots over the course of two games. Dakota Cimetta (Coral Springs, Fla./J.P. Taravella) was aggressive on the offensive end with six shots this weekend, including her first collegiate-career goal.
Scouting the Bears (0-0, 0-0 CACC)
Bloomfield College has yet to experience their first game of the season. Their debut which was set for Sep. 2 was canceled due to inclement weather, which now makes their game against the Chargers their first of the season. In the CACC Preseason Coaches' Poll, the Bears were ranked 11th. Bloomfield finished 1-16-1 overall int he 2019 season and did not win a game on the road. The team is comprised of 14 freshman and sophomores, and only two seniors. Head Coach Samuel Adjei was recognized as one of the United Soccer Coaches "30 under 30."
