Inside the Series
The relationship between these two NE10 teams have gone on since 1984 when New Haven dropped a 75-62 decision. Fast forward to the present and the last time these two played was in the final round of the NE10 championship. Saint Anselm won the title last season, but they also slipped up a one-point win over the Chargers in the NCAA Division II East Region Championship the year prior.

Overall New Haven is 19-29 when they meet Saint Anselm, and Hotaling is 9-18 up against the Hawks.

Scouting the Hawks (8-4, 4-3 NE10)
Chris Paul, senior forward from Highland Mills, N.Y., was added Monday to the 2021 Bevo Francis Award Watch List. He was one of the 100 student-athletes from small Division II or Division III programs that posted a fine season overall. This list will be cut in half come Feb. 15 and then again on Mar. 15.

As of right now Paul leads the Hawks in categories such as scoring, rebounds, and assists with 237, 99, and 46 so far this season to date, respectively. He also leads the conference in free throws made and attempted, 59-84.

Heading into Wednesday Paul will have had 28 consecutive games of scoring in the double-digits, this dates back to Jan. of 2020. He has scored 1,613 career points, which comes in at 13 in the nation amongst a pool of Division II athletes.

After dropping a two-point decision to post, the Hawks have had three consecutive games canceled that flipped a switch and turned into a three-game winning streak. Their most recent victory was at Adelphi, in which New Haven just conquered the Panthers by 17 points in their last contender.

Scouting the Chargers (10-5, 6-4 NE10)
New Haven has ignited a two-game winning streak after stampeding on Adelphi 70-53 on Monday, and they look to continue this flame with Wednesday's matchup. Within this hot-streak sophomore Tavin Pierre Philippe (Brooklyn, N.Y./Baldwin High School) has lit up the floor averaging 18.3 points per game with a field goal percentage of .633. Not to mention, the crowd fueled the fire with excitement when Philippe dunked over 6-foot-6 forward Andrew Delaney of the Panthers. This was one of two dunks that game, one of which made the NE10 Plays of the Week for Jan. 10-17.

As a team, the Chargers shot 54.1 percent from the floor on Monday which was their best shooting performance since they went 55.1 percent at Southern Connecticut earlier in the season.

When and Where
After back-to-back home games on North Campus, the Chargers will hit the road before returning for another pair of games in Charger Gym.

Ted Hotaling and his crew will travel to Saint Anselm College to take on the Hawks, who are ranked third in the Northeast division of the conference. New Haven is 2-1 when they have games on Wednesdays. Also to note, all Wednesday games have been on the road.

Tipoff between the Chargers and the Hawks is set for 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 19. Live coverage will be available for streaming purposes on the NE10 Now Network as well as play-by-play coverage on NewHavenChargers.com
