MANCHESTER, N.H. – Freshman Riley Drosopoulos (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield) scored her first career goal in the first half thanks to an assist from graduate midfielder Mackenzie Myers (Williamstown, N.J./Williamstown) as the New Haven women's soccer team picked up a point in the NE10 standings with a 1-1 draw against Southern New Hampshire on Saturday afternoon.
Drosopoulos' goal began as a corner kick opportunity set up by senior Madison Blonde (Rockland, Mass./Rockland) whose close in shot was thwarted by the SNHU keeper and pushed over the endline. Myers would play the corner kick short to Drosopoulos who dribbled forward and drilled a diagonal shot from the corner of the 18-yard box. Her attempt crossed the entire length of the goal front and crept under the crossbar inside the opposite corner eluding the outstretched arms of SNHU keeper Hannah Rose.
New Haven would take that lead into the halftime break, and maintain the advantage until the 62nd minute when Morgan Siechen broke the shutout and knotted the score at one.
Overall, the two teams would finish matched evenly in the shot column with 17 apiece, Rose closed out her afternoon with six saves for the Penmen, while her counterpart for the Chargers, Amanda McQuillian made four stops.
New Haven will return to West Haven for its second to last home game when they welcome Franklin Pierce for a midweek battle on Tuesday, October 18. Kickoff in the NE10 battle is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. with all of the action available live online on the Charger Sports Network, part of NE10 NOW.
