WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Graduate midfielder Mackenzie Myers (Williamstown, N.J./Williamstown) and sophomore midfielder Vickie Fleming (Burlington, Conn./Lewis Mills) each net a pair of goals that all came in the first 25 minutes to lead New Haven to a 4-0 halftime lead and an eventual 5-0 shutout of the Queens College Knights on Wednesday night at Kathy Zolad Stadium. With the win, the Chargers close out the 2022 season with a 5-10-3 overall record and a 2-9-1 mark in the Northeast-10.
Myers broke through early on in the game when she scored off the opening kickoff with her shot crossing the line just 37 seconds into the action. Her first goal of the evening came courtesy of an assist from fellow graduating senior Alyssa McMahon (Toms River, N.J./Toms River East).
She would add her second tally before the 10 minute mark when Riley Drosopoulos (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield) drilled a cross from the sideline across the box where Myers collected and eluded the keeper who was following the cross from Drosopoulos. The two goals from Myers put her at three on the season as she closes out her final campaign with eight points adding two assists to her credit.
Fleming then net her set of goals just 31 seconds apart. For the first she had assistance from graduate defender Halle Palmedo (Manhasset, N.Y./Manhasset), while on the second she took a cross from senior Madison Blonde (Rockland, Mass./Rockland) and drilled a long shot that snuck under the crossbar over the outstretch hands of the Queens keeper.
The Chargers final goal of the season came in the 56th minute when Macy Litalien (Fitchburg, Mass./Oakmont Regional) broke through courtesy of a pass from junior Dakota Cimetta (Coral Springs, Fla./J.P. Taravella).
Leading the Blue and Gold on the season was Blonde who cashed in on a team-high six goals and added two assists for 14 points. Just behind her and ahead of Myers in leading New Haven was Fleming who with her two goals in the season finale finished the year with four marks total.
