ALBANY, N.Y. – The New Haven women's basketball team saw 60 of their 62 points come from the starting five, but it wouldn't be enough as they Chargers dropped their first game of the 2022-23 season 75-62 at Saint Rose. The loss drops New Haven to 3-1 on the season and 1-1 in NE10 play. 
Leading the Blue and Gold with her third 20+ performance of the season was graduate guard Camryn DeBose (Wellington, Fla./Wellington Community) who closed out the night with 22 points, inching closer to becoming the 21st player in program history to reach the 1,000 point plateau as she needs just 30 points to join the prestigious group. 
For the game, DeBose shot 8-of-19 from the field, including a team-best four three pointers. She also grabbed five boards and dished out one assist. Joining her in leading the Chargers was fellow captain Aurora Deshaies (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden) who completed her fourth double double in as many games, closing out the night with 18 points and 14 rebounds. Deshaies continued her hot shooting, connecting on 9-of-12 from the floor. 
Rounding out the Charger leading scorers was senior point guard Kameryn King (Old Saybrook, Conn./Mercy) who finished with 14 points on 5-of-9 shooting, with one three pointers, while adding 3-of-5 at the free throw line. Senior Briana Van Cleaf (Staten Island, N.Y./Notre Dame Academy) and graduate transfer Leighanna Lister (Kutztown, Pa./Northwestern Lehigh) would complete New Haven's scoring with six and two points, respectively. The latter of those, Lister, was the only to score off the bench. 
As a team, New Haven finished the game shooting 47 percent (24-of-51) with five of those buckets from outside the arc. They also added nine points at the free throw line, while once again outrebounding their opponent 36-29. 
Following a short hiatus for the Thanksgiving Holiday, New Haven will return to action with another midweek match-up, this time visiting the state capital of Massachusetts, Springfield, on Wednesday, November 30. Tip-off from Butova Gymnasium is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in the first game of a doubleheader with men's team. All of the action in the NE10 battle can be seen live on NE10 NOW. 
FIRST QUARTER HIGHLIGHTS
·        After trading the first two baskets of the game, the Golden Knights scored five straight to take the early lead in the game. 
·        The Chargers answered by scoring back-to-back buckets to knot the game at seven with a three pointer from DeBose and a layup from Deshaies. 
·        Neither team would muster a lead of more than three over the final five minutes of the period, with the only New Haven lead a 17-16 advantage thanks to a second chance layup from Van Cleaf with 1:23 remaining, which was also the second of back-to-back layups for New Haven. 
·        Deshaies and DeBose led the way in the opening quarter with eight and seven points respectively, while Deshaies was well on her way to her fourth double double pulling down seven first quarter boards. 
SECOND QUARTER HIGHLIGHTS
·        Saint Rose opened up the second quarter with a three pointer and extended that lead to six less than 90 seconds into the action. 
·        The Golden Knights opened up their first double digit lead of the night with 4:15 left in the half. New Haven answered back by cutting that lead down to five with just over a minutes to play thanks to a jumper from King. 
·        Saint Rose answered with a pair of free throws to end the quarter, taking a 36-29 lead into the halftime intermission as neither team was able to muster a basket in the final 50 seconds. 
THIRD QUARTER HIGHLIGHTS
·        New Haven came out of the intermission scoring on the opening possession with Van Cleaf netting the bucket on a step back jumper. 
·        Saint Rose responded by the next seven points to take a 43-31 lead before a three pointer from DeBose broke that home court momentum. 
·        The teams would trade buckets for the next five minutes before New Haven managed to score back-to-back from Deshaies to pull back within eight, 54-46. 
·        The Golden Knights responded by scoring the final four points of the quarter to take a 12 point lead into the break. Again, Deshaies and DeBose led the way for the Chargers, combined scoring 13 points, including Deshaies going a perfect 3-of-3 from the floor. 
FOURTH QUARTER HIGHLIGHTS
·        Neither team would score a bucket for the first two minutes of the fourth with each team netting a pair of free throws prior to Saint Rose's Sanchez breaking the drought for both teams with a layup that provided the largest lead to that point of 14. 
·        King and DeBose would answer that bucket with back-to-back of their own, with King completing a three point play on hers to pull back within single digits, but it would be the final time for the Chargers. 
·        Saint Rose saw its biggest lead of 15 come on a pair of occasions, the first with 3:19 remaining and the last with 1:40 remaining.
