PHILADELPHIA, Pa - The University of New Haven men's basketball team had their four game winning streak snapped by the Chestnut Hill Griffins in a 65-74 loss on Sunday afternoon. The loss was the Chargers' third of the season and second against a non-conference opponent as the Griffins even the all-time series at one a piece.
Leading the Chargers on the day with a 16-point performance was
Quashawn Lane (Trenton, N.J./Trenton Catholic Academy). The graduate guard made six of his nine field goal attempts while also adding three points at the free-throw line. Despite not recording an assist for the first time in a game this season, Lane is still fifth in the conference in assists per game.
The only other Charger to touch double-figures wasÂ
Davontrey Thomas (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Poughkeepsie), who shot 4-of-18 from the floor to finish with 12 points. Two of the junior forward's field goals came from beyond the arc as he still leads all NE10 scorers with 3.1 three-pointers per game.
Victor Olawoye (Elmont, N.Y./Elmont Memorial High School) and
Ty Perry (Boston, Mass./Brighton) combined for 15 points while the former added seven points from the line. Olawoye pulled in six rebounds to go with three assists while Perry, who shot 2-of-9 from the field, grabbed three rebounds.
Majur Majak (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./), who has the highest field goal percentage in the Northeast-10, finished with 3-of-6 shooting while pulling down nine rebounds. In addition to his seven points, the senior center swatted away four shots as he has now racked up 24 blocks on the season. Â
The Chargers saw some big contributions from the bench asÂ
Sean Braithwaite (Center Moriches, N.Y./Center Moriches)Â went 3-4 from the floor to finish with a season-high eight points.
Kendall McMillan (Columbia, Md./Mount Saint Joseph) made a pair of shots while adding two points from the line to finish the game with six points.Â
New Haven was held to their lowest shooting percentage this season, shooting 21-of-57 as a team. For only the second time this year, the Chargers were outrebounded by an opponent as the Griffins took a 44-29 advantage including 11 offensive rebounds that led to 23 second-chance points.Â
Heading into the break with a 6-3 record (5-1 in conference), the University of New Haven men's soccer team will host Molloy when they return to play on Dec. 29. Tip-off for that game is scheduled for 7:00 P.M. at Charger Gymnasium with live play-by-play stats onÂ
