Chargers Shown No Love From Bentley; Fall 61-80

WALTHAM, MASS. - The University of New Haven women's basketball team dropped their 14th game of the season, a 61-80 loss to the Bentley Falcons, in a Valentine's Day matchup that showed the Chargers no love. The loss sends the Chargers to 8-14 on the year as their conference record now stands at 3-13. On offense, the Chargers were led by Camryn DeBose (Wellington, Fla./Wellington Community), who finished with 12 points after shooting 5-13 (38.5%) from the field. The senior guard broke out of a slump, scoring double-digit points for the first time in three games as she has now scored ten points or more in 17 of the 22 games she has played this season. DeBose also recorded a steal in the loss, extending her streak to 16 games while only been held to zero steals once this season. Kameryn King (Old Saybrook, Conn./Mercy) racked up 11 points, shooting 4-7 (57.1%) on the night with three makes coming from beyond the arc. The junior guard also tallied five rebounds, all on defense, and two assists in the effort while recording a steal, herself. Also reaching double-digit points was Aurora Deshaies (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden), who finished with a 10 point-seven rebound performance. Although she came short tonight, the junior forward has grabbed ten or more rebounds in 13 of the 21 games she's played in as she averages a double-double on the season with 10.8 points and 10.3 rebounds per game. Briana Van Cleaf (Staten Island, N.Y./Notre Dame Academy) also crashed the boards, tallying six rebounds while adding six points to her night. Graduate guard Brie Pergola (Torrington, Conn./Torrington) shot 3-4 (75.0%) from the field while making her only attempted free throw to finish the game with seven points. Among those providing scoring from the bench was freshman guard Charlotte Bassett (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury), who made two baskets, including a three-pointer, to put up five points. Bionca Chambers (Bronx, N.Y./New Milford) did a little of everything for the Chargers, totaling seven points, three rebounds, and three assists while also recording a block, as well. Rounding out New Haven scorers is Alyssa Stevenson (Watertown, N.Y./South Jefferson Central), who scored her only points  in the paint on an assist from DeBose early in the second quarter.

The Falcons went 31-59 (52.5%) shooting from the field and 12-23 (52.2%) from behind the perimeter. The Chargers ended the game shooting 26-57 (45.6%) while shooting 8-18 (44.4%) on three-point attempts. Bentley shot 6-11 (54.5%) from the line as opposed to New Haven, who only went 1-3 (33.3%). The Chargers turned those turnovers into 18 points on the other end while Bentley scored 30 points off of turnovers.
