For ten straight contests paired with Le Moyne, New Haven has been absent of a win. Their only victory over the Dolphins came back in 2014 when Le Moyne was seeded fourth. Now eight seasons later the Blue and Gold left Ted Grant Field with their second-ever win to Le Moyne, leaving it all to freshman Reagan Bailey in the final 1:11.
How it Happened
Raegan Bailey (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire) was the first Charger to score, and in the final two minutes of game action with the scoreboard locked at 13-13, she was the last player on the field to score putting No. 18 New Haven over the No. 5 Le Moyne Dolphins.
In the Chargers season opener the freshman, attacker posted six goals setting the standard for her next career-high early from the start. In Wednesday's meeting at Le Moyne she posted the same six goals and book the tie when it mattered most in the final 1:11.
In the first quarter alone, Le Moyne out shot New Haven 13-4, but at the end of regulation the amount of shots the Chargers took in comparison to the Dolphins only had a difference of one, 32-31. Bailey put the Chargers on the board with a goal off a free position attempt after the Dolphins scored two less than ten minutes in. Heading into the second quarter, the Dolphins were up 4-1.
Le Moyne held onto their lead in the second quarter and went into halftime up three goals, 8-5. New Haven got within one goal of the Dolphins when Annie Acquavita (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire) scored her 17th goal of the season. She went on to score two more throughout the evening. It wasn't until after the break at halftime that the Chargers were faced with three tied up scores.
To kick off the third quarter, the Blue and Gold cannon balled on offense scoring four goals off the rip holding the Dolphins without a goal for seven minutes. Bailey scored the final goal of this scoring run, which gave New Haven their first lead of the night 9-8. With 4:38 in the quarter remaining, Le Moyne went on a scoring run of their own putting up three foals to take the lead back before the start of the final fifteen minutes, 9-11.
Both teams alternated scoring until 5:20 remained. Bailey started it off for the Chargers, then Le Moyne matched that goal. Again, Bailey tried to one-up the Dolphins but they retaliated by scoring again. Another scoring run was initiated by Acquavita, which prompted two goals after hers, in the final five minutes allowing New Haven to knock off the fifth-ranked Dolphins on their own field.
