WEST HAVEN, Conn. – After a sweep of the Golden Knights on day one of the homestand the Chargers looked to keep the momentum going into their Sunday double header against the Dolphins of Le Moyne. In the middle series of the home stand, the Chargers looked to improve upon their already impressive 5-1 record at home hosting a Dolphins team that has been struggling.

Coming off two big wins on Saturday, the Chargers welcomed the Le Moyne Dolphins to West Haven for a crucial NE10 matchup. Entering the matchup the Chargers came off of a series sweep against the Golden Knights on Saturday at home and looked to carry that over. In the year the Chargers entered 12-10 overall with a 6-2 record in the Southwest side of the Northeast 10. The offense for the Chargers has been led by the long ball with 12 entering the series with Nahtali Simpson (West Orange, N.J./West Orange) and Hailey Laforte (Milford, Conn./Foran) both hitting three. Across the dugout the Dolphins entered, sitting, 9-13, on a five game losing streak and 3-5 on the road. New Haven took the lead in the all time series 23-22 following going 4-0 against the Dolphins in 2021.
Game 1:
Mya Case (Syracuse, N.Y/West Genessee) ended the pitchers duel in the third with one swing of the bat. Dolphins pitcher Laura Bennet had kept the blue and golds bat quiet until the third. Selena Aponte (Lumberton, N.J./Rancocas Valley) led off the inning and won the battle of the pitchers finding the gap on the left side picking up the first hit of the game for the Chargers. After a strikeout by Hailey Laforte (Milford, Conn./Foran), Mya Case (Syracuse, N.Y/West Genessee) changed the mood of the game. On a 1-0 pitch Case found one in her wheelhouse and turned on it, clearing the left field fence in a hurry making it a 2-0 game. Hailey Polisano (Howell, N.J./Howell) kept the inning going by singling followed by a Nahtali Simpson (West Orange, N.J./West Orange) single setting up first and second one away. Jovanna Hillman (Seymour, Conn./Saint Joseph) cashed in on the opportunity, singling to left scoring Polisano and making it 3-0. After the Dolphins scored three in the fourth, Mya Case (Syracuse, N.Y/West Genessee) answered the call again, coming up clutch in the fifth. Leading off the fifth Case turned on a 2-2 pitch and once again cleared the left field fence giving the blue and gold the lead once again. That was just the beginning as three batters later Jovanna Hillman (Seymour, Conn./Saint Joseph) joined in on the party, clearing the left field fence as well for a solo homer making it 5-3 New Haven. That was all that Selena Aponte (Lumberton, N.J./Rancocas Valley) needed, sitting the final six Dolphins down in order picking up her eighth win of the year moving the Chargers to 13-10 on the year and heading into game 2 of the double header.
Game 2:
Mya Case (Syracuse, N.Y/West Genessee) continued to be a spark for the offense, beating out an infield single to start the game. Following a Polisano sac bunt, Case came around to score on a throwing error by the shortstop on Nahtali Simpson's (West Orange, N.J./West Orange) grounder scoring and giving the blue and gold the 1-0 lead. Case would come up again in the third, singling and coming around to score on Jovanna Hillman (Seymour, Conn./Saint Joseph)s bloop single to right, scoring Case from third and taking the 2-0 lead. After the Dolphins scored a run in the fourth, New Haven loaded the bases with back to back walks for Hailey Laforte (Milford, Conn./Foran) and Mya Case (Syracuse, N.Y/West Genessee). Hailey Polisano (Howell, N.J./Howell) reached on an error, setting up bases loaded and two outs for Nahtali Simpson (West Orange, N.J./West Orange). After seeing three straight balls, Simpson walked on five pitches, scoring Laforte and making it a 3-1 game heading to the fifth inning. The Dolphin picked up a run in the fifth to make it a one run game again. In the sixth looking to add some insurance runs for Mia Iodice (Rehoboth, Mass./Dighton-Rehoboth Regional), Hailey Laforte (Milford, Conn./Foran) led things off with a walk followed by Mya Case (Syracuse, N.Y/West Genessee) singling for her third hit of the afternoon. Hailey Polisano (Howell, N.J./Howell) reached on an error to make it bases loaded and no outs. The Chargers were denied in the inning, sending it to the top of the seventh for Mia Iodice (Rehoboth, Mass./Dighton-Rehoboth Regional) with a one run lead. Iodice in the inning would get the first two outs but the Dolphins would score three on an error by the Chargers taking the two run lead. New Haven got a runner on but were unable to get the tying run dropping the game 5-3.
Following the split, the home stand continues for the Chargers with a Tuesday double header against the Panthers of Adelphi for the home stand closer for the Blue and Gold.
