Senior, Marina Skelly (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Connetquot), was just a few goals shy of reaching her 100-goal milestone before the first draw today at 3 p.m. After recording a career-high of seven goals, she reached her achievement and then some.
How it Happened
New Haven took an early four goal lead at the end of the first quarter, 5-1. Scoring for American International with 2:15 remaining was Liz Day who cut the Yellow Jackets deficit, 2-1. After that the Chargers went on a 3-0 scoring run dominated by Skelly, Gianna Caprioli (Clinton Corners, N.Y./Franklin Delano Roosevelt), and Mary Rishmany (Tiverton, R.I./Bishop Stang) to close out the quarter.
Sam Giordano of AIC scored the final Yellow Jackets goal of the half at 1:10 left until the halftime buzzer, off a free position attempt. Prior to that, the stellar Blue and Gold offense went on a seven goal run holding AIC scoreless for 16 minutes, starting in the first quarter after Day scored their first goal.
After the break, AIC scored two goals in each of the two remaining quarter ending with six goals in total for the Gold and Black. The Chargers combined for seven goals in the final half hour of action, two in the third quarter and five in the fourth.
Leah Davis (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township), scored their first goals of the 2022 campaign.
Kyra Sparks (Jefferson, N.J./Jefferson Township) scored her second goal of the season, her first was against Molloy in late March.
Freshman, Lindsey Belmonte (Yaphank, N.Y./Bellport) and sophomore, Ivanna Hernandez (Bay Shore, N.Y./Brentwood) scored their first collegiate career goals.
In the end, it was the Chargers who went home with a conference win, their third of the season, which brings their two-game losing streak to an end.
