Women’s Tennis Falls at Southern New Hampshire 6-1

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The New Haven women's tennis team suffered its first conference loss of the season on Tuesday, dropping a 6-1 decision at Southern New Hampshire.

The lone point for the Chargers came in singles action with senior Kacie Banks (Marietta, Ga./Marietta) earning the victory at No. 5 singles. After dropping her opening set, Banks forced a tiebreaker after earning a 7-6 (7-4) decision in the second set. She would go on to earn the victory with a 10-4 win in the tiebreaker.

Fellow senior Alexa Orlando (Frederick, Md./Middletown) also forced a tiebreaker before dropping her decision at No. 6 singles. Orlando opened up her match against Guntra Upeniece with a 6-3 win in the opening set before dropping back-to-back 6-3, 6-3 decisions.

Also earning a victory on the day was the rookie doubles pair of Lucia Placidi (Melbourne, Australia/Distance Education Centre Victoria) and Valentinna Ferrarini (Caxias do Sul, Brazil) who took the decision at No. 2 doubles over SNHY's Verena Weindl and Alina Kupfer. All three doubles matches came down to the wire with the decisions at No. 1 and No. 2 coming down to tiebreakers.

The Chargers will enjoy a 10-day break before returning to the court, however during that break in dual matches, four Chargers will be taking part in the ITA Regionals at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
