·        make New Haven the lone undefeated team in the Northeast-10 team

·        be the 16th straight win against a team from the NE10, dating back to an Oct. 12, 2019 loss to Saint Anselm on the road.

·        be the 269th overall victory in the 43 plus year history of Charger Football.

SCOUTING THE CHARGERS
New Haven enters the battle of undefeated NE10 teams looking for its 15th straight conference victory following wins over AIC and Bentley to open the league schedule. In last week's win over the Falcons it was the running game that ruled the offense, with sophomore Christopher Ais (Stoughton, Mass./Stoughton) racking up a season-high 131 yards and a touchdown. The week prior against the Yellow Jackets it was quarterback Connor Degenhardt (Westford, Mass./Westford Academy) doing the big lifting, throwing five touchdowns. The other large factor in both games has been New Haven's defense which against AIC picked off four passes and against the Falcons a fourth quarter scoop and score from David Onyemem (Dracut, Mass./Central Catholic) secured the road victory. For the season, Ais is averaging 85 yards per game and has concluded three drives in the endzone. Degenhardt has thrown for 779 yards, completing 57-of-105 passes with nine touchdowns while also adding a rushing TD. Overall for the year, he has had the luxury of relying on 12 different receivers to keep the opponents defense always on edge. Defensively, New Haven is led by Damon Burton, Jr. who has 30 tackles, including three TFL. Jack Quander (Gainsville, Va./Patriot) is also a person to take note of, leading the team with 3.5 sacks among his 19 total tackles.

SCOUTING THE HAWKS
Saint Anselm enters Saturday looking to remain unblemished on the season with a 4-0 record overall and a 2-0 mark in conference play following league wins over Franklin Pierce and Southern Connecticut. In the most recent game against the Owls it took a final minute score for the Hawks to cement the victory, breaking a 14-14 stalemate. It isn't hard to see where the Charger defense will need to key in as the Hawks are averaging 305 yards per game passing and just 69.8 yards per game on the ground. Junior quarterback Drew Willoughby has completed more than 66 percent of his pass attempts for a league-leading 1,202 yards and 14 touchdowns. He has had a pair of receivers haul in 20 passes apiece, with Anthony Brown leading the duo with a team-high six TD receptions. On the ground, Vincent Wagner leads the team with his 34.8 yards per game average and one of the Hawks three rushing touchdowns.

NEXT ON TAP
After spending two weeks away, New Haven returns to West Haven for the first of back-to-back home games, not heading back on the road until the last weekend of October. The first team to visit DellaCamera Stadium in that stretch will be Pace on Saturday, October 8. The NE10 battle against the Setters is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff with all the action available live on the Charger Sports Network, part of NE10 NOW, with JW Stewart and Steve Kunsey on the call.
