THE LEAD
Tough luck continues to fall upon the New Haven men's soccer team as they dropped their third straight game of the season, all by one goal, as the visiting Dominican Chargers defeated New Haven 2-1 at Kathy Zolad Stadium on Saturday night. The Chargers stay home on Tuesday, Sept. 6 to host Alliance University (previously know as the Nyack Warriors) at 7:00 P.M.

SERIES HISTORY VS NYACK
This year's matchup marks the eighth time these two programs will face off as New Haven holds the edge with a 6-1 all-time record over the Warriors. The two last met on Sept. 14, 2021 in a victorious 5-3 effort for the Chargers. The series dates back to Sept. 14, 1999 and the Chargers defeated the Warriors 2-1 in double overtime. When hosting Nyack, New Haven holds a 4-1 record.

SCOUTING THE CHARGERS
Entering the fourth game of the 2022 season, the Chargers still seek their first win. The last time the Chargers started the season off 0-3 was during the 2018 season.

While Tyler Pereira (Fairhaven, Mass./Fairhaven), the team's lone goal scorer prior to Saturday's game, was out, it was freshman forward Guillem Barnils (Barcelona, Spain/Escola Pia Nostrasenyora) who stepped up. Coming off the bench, Barnils attempted three shots, one of which found the back of the net for his first collegiate goal.

Barnils is now tied with Pereira for the most points on the team with two while Dante Polletta (Prospect, Conn./Woodland Regional) trails with one, coming by way of an assist on Pereira's goal against Bridgeport.

So far on the season the Chargers have totaled 32 shots, 16 of which have been on goal, while opponents have also attempted 32 shots with 19 on goal.

Sophomore goalkeeper Themis Kastoris (Gothenburg, Sweden/Kitas Gymnasiet) has racked up 13 saves and a .722 save percentage to start the year, second and tenth in the NE10, respectively.

Out of all 14 Chargers who have attempted one or more shots, Barnils holds the lead for shots taken with seven while Polletta trails with four.

SCOUTING THE WARRIORS
Nyack, now Alliance University, is still in
search of their first win of the season, as well, as they enter the contest with a 0-2 record. Coming off the heels of a 9-9-1 record during the 2021 season, the Nyack Warriors enter the matchup looking to recapture the magic of their end of the year run from a season ago in which they finished 6-2-1 before a 2-1 CACC Quarterfinals loss to Dominican.

After falling 2-0 to the Franklin Pierce Ravens to open the season, the Warriors suffered a 3-2 loss on Saturday at St. Thomas Aquinas. Nyack struck first against the Spartans before yielding three unanswered goals before finally cutting the deficit to one with a late goal at the 81:27 minute mark.

Sophomore defenseman Noah Brill and senior forward Alex Gazzoni have both recorded a goal this season while the latter also tacked on an assist.Gazzoni leads the team with three points while Brill and Sebastian Pedraza follow with two and one, respectively. Pedraza and senior midfielder Javier Plaza have both attempted four shots this season while five Warriors have tallied two.

Graduate goalkeeper Marco Roessle started both games between the posts for the Warriors, where he has allowed five goals while racking up 16 saves. Roessle's 16 saves currently rank third most in the CACC amongst all goalkeepers.

The Nyack offense was quite formidable last year, totaling 94 points stemming from 34 goals and 26 assists. The Warriors ranked fifth in goals for on average with 1.79 and goals against on average with 1.68.

The Warriors are currently tenth in the conference standings with 0 points.
