MANCHESTER, N.H. – Traveling to Manchester, N.H. for the second-straight game, the New Haven men's basketball team dropped an 80-52 decision to the Southern New Hampshire Penmen, the second loss in conference play for the Chargers. With the decision, New Haven falls to 10-4 overall and 7-2 in the Northeast-10 Conference.
A pair of Chargers led the way in the scoring column, with senior Majur Majak (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./) closing out the night with a double double, netting 11 points and pulling down 12 boards. The center's 11 points came on another quality performance from the field, as he extended his conference-leading field goal percentage, shooting 5-of-6 from the field, while adding a free throw. In addition, five of his 12 boards came on the offensive glass, helping lead to 18 second chance points for the Chargers.
Rounding out the leading scorers was transfer Ty Perry (Boston, Mass./Brighton) who finished with a team-high 12 points. Victor Olawoye (Elmont, N.Y./Elmont Memorial High School) followed with nine points as all but 11 of the Chargers 52 points came from its starting five. As a team, New Haven finished the game shooting 31 percent from the field, connecting on 18-of-58 field goal attempts, with four coming from outside the three-point arc. The Chargers also added 12 points at the free throw line, those coming on 18 attempts.
New Haven will make a quick stop back in West Haven as they host crosstown rival Southern Connecticut in the Battle of the Elm City on Saturday, January 14.
