West Haven, C.T- After a strong win against Franklin Pierce in the first round of playoffs, the Chargers looked to take home another semifinal win against the Penmen of Southern New Hampshire. Falling to the Penmen 4-2 the Chargers wrapped up their fall season with a record of 8-3, and a Northeast-10 Regular Season Championship title.
Risako Umekuni (Saitama, Japan/Shumei Eiko) and Lucia Placidi (Melbourne, Australia/Distance Education Centre Victoria) picked up another win in doubles play, the first win of the match with a 6-4 contest in the No. 2 doubles spot. The Penmen would take the second match at the No. 3 doubles spot, putting the teams even at 1-1, as the No. 1 doubles wrapped up in favor of Southern New Hampshire.
With one point favoring the Penmen going into singles play, the Chargers looked to redeem their points and even up the scoring. Southern New Hampshire would take the No. 1 singles match 6-3, 6-4, but Risako Umekuni (Saitama, Japan/Shumei Eiko) would follow taking a win to even up the singles play. Alexa Orlando (/) would pick up another win to pack her stats in the No. 6 singles with scores 7-6, 6-2 bringing the total score on the game to 3-2. With the match on the line, the Penmen would secure their fourth point in No. 4 doubles, ending the rest of the matches, and wrapping up the Chargers season.
Looking at the season, the Chargers made significant advancements in regard to their prior seasons. Making it to the second round of playoffs for the first time in their past four seasons. New Haven will wrap up their fall season and will be back in action in March for their spring break trip as they bring on their spring play.
