West Haven, C.T- The New Haven field hockey team welcomed West Chester to their home turf for the last game of their 2023 season with a 0-3 loss, as they will not advance to post-season play. The Chargers ended the season with a 5-13 record overall, and a 5-8 conference record.
West Chester, ranking at No. 6 in the nation, held the Chargers scoreless while taking control of the game early on. The Golden Ram's first goal came in the eighth minute with Jasmine Miller finding the back of the net.
The Golden Rams controlled the pace of the game shortly after, forcing the Chargers defense to defend five penalty corners. However, great corner defense from the Chargers allowed the Golden Rams to only convert on one of those penalty corners.
The Golden Rams outshot the Chargers 28-2, putting 15 of those shots on goal, where the Chargers forced goalkeeper Emerie Loftis to make two saves on the opposite end. Sophomore Sydney Moda (/) and freshman Jordan Gagliastro (Worcester, Mass./Doherty Memorial) each putting one shot on goal for the Chargers. Both shots coming off fourth quarter offensive efforts from the Chargers.
Despite the score, starting freshman goalkeeper Cara Lambert (Sutton, Mass./Sutton Memorial) had a strong performance in goal, totaling a career-high 8 saves on the day. Graduate goalkeeper Ally Saigh (Grosse Point Woods, Mich./Grosse Point North) would find herself four saves on the evening. All three Chargers goalkeepers combining to save 12 out of the 15 shots the Rams placed on goal.
