Hogan Nets Career High as Chargers Go End-to-End in Opening Night Rout

WILMINGTON, Del. – Sophomore Lindsay Hogan (Bayville, N.Y./Locust Valley) opened up her second season wearing Blue and Gold in impressive fashion as she racked up 30 points, missing just one of her 11 field goal attempts to lead all players in an 81-21 season opening win over the Wilmington Wildcats.

Half of Hogan's 30 points came from outside the three point arc while she also went 5-of-5 at the free throw line while adding three rebounds, two assists and a trio of steals. Overall, Hogan was one of three Chargers to surpass double digits, while 11 of the 12 players who saw action on the night scored at least two points. Among those scorers were six different players who all scored their first points as a Charger.

"Great start in our opening game," said head coach Debbie Buff. "Our defense was stellar, and we shared the ball. We came out of the gate hard and followed the scout as it was written up."

Joining Hogan in leading the Chargers was graduate transfer Makaela Johnson (Hamden, Conn./Hamden) who closed out her first game in a Charger uniform with a double double scoring 11 points and pulling down 10 boards. Rounding out the leading scorers was graduate post Aurora Deshaies (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden) who finished with 14 points and missed the double double by one rebound, finishing with nine.

As a team, New Haven closed out the night shooting 60 percent from the field, connecting on 30 of their 50 total attempts, including going 6-of-8 from outside the three point arc with Hogan leading that effort a perfect 5-of-5 from long range. In addition, the Chargers were 15-of-21 from the free throw line for a 71.4 percent effort.

Additionally, the Chargers finished with a combined 16 assists, with eight different players dishing out at least one. Leading the way was senior Gabrielle Stickle (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) who finished with a career-high five.

New Haven will continue its season-opening tipoff tournament on Saturday when they take on the host Goldey-Beacom Lightning with opening tip set first 1:00 p.m. at Joseph West Jones Center.
