WHAT'S ON TAP
After a week away, the New Haven women's basketball team returns to action on Wednesday night at Assumption, continuing a string of five-straight NE10 games. After winning its first two games of the season, the Chargers look to bounce back to the win column after falling to Bentley and Pace to open up NE10 play. On the flipside, Assumption suffered its first loss of the season last time out, falling on the road at Saint Rose.

SCOUTING NEW HAVEN
Sophomore Lindsay Hogan (Bayville, N.Y./Locust Valley) has filled the void left by the loss of two of the top three scorers from a year ago as she is averaging 17.0 points across the first four games of the year, including a career-high 30 points in the season opener against Wilmington. Graduate student Aurora Deshaies (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden) has also picked up where she left off last season, averaging a double double through the first four games, one of two players in the NE10 to average a double double with 13.0 points and 10.0 rebounds to her credit. The addition of transfers Makaela Johnson (Hamden, Conn./Hamden) (Saint Rose) and Nayeli Dowding (Baldwin, N.Y./Baldwin) (Hartford) has also paid off for the Chargers with Johnson averaging 8.3 points and 6.0 rebounds, while Dowding is adding 7.3 points per game. In the backcourt, fifth-year head coach Debbie Buff turned to the experience of senior Gabrielle Stickle (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) to run the offense and she hasn't disappointed as she has dished out 17 assists, ninth most in the NE10, including a career-high eight in the win over Goldey-Beacom, while scoring a season-high 11 last time out against Pace. Despite losses in its last games, New Haven is outscoring opponents by an average of 18.5 points per game, scoring 80+ in the first two games of the season, after hitting that scoring mark just once all of last season. All combined, the Chargers are shooting 44.5 percent (101-227) as a team, led by Hogan who is shooting 55 percent from the field (26-47).

SCOUTING ASSUMPTION
After opening the season with three straight wins, the Greyhounds suffered their first loss of the season on the road at Saint Rose to even out their NE10 record at 1-1. Despite that loss, Assumption is outscoring its opponents by 10 points per game, putting up 68 points on offense, led by Marina Callahan who is averaging an NE10 best 19.8 points per game. Callahan also leads the Greyhounds on the boards with 9.3 rebounds per game, while she has a team-high six steals and seven blocks and is second overall with 18 assists. Joining her in leading the scoring efforts is Molly Stokes who adds 12.0 ppg, the only other player to average double figures. Callahan's team-leading 9.3 rebounds per game is part of an average of 37 per game for the team, however the Greyhounds are trailing their opponents in that category as they surrender 45.8 rebounds per outing.

SERIES HISTORY vs ASSUMPTION

·         New Haven and Assumption meet for the 40th time in the history of the two programs.

·         Assumption holds a 29-10 record in the previous 39 games, including a stretch where they won 20-of-22 games.

·         New Haven opened up the series winning the first three meetings, one each in three-straight seasons beginning in 1986-87.

·         The Greyhounds are currently riding a four-game stretch, including taking both ends of the home-and-home series last season - 55-42 in West Haven and 60-44 in Worcester.

NEXT TIME OUT
After closing out the month of November tonight, the Chargers will begin a stretch of four-straight home games, never leaving home in the month of December. First up on the docket will be a visit from the Southern New Hampshire Penmen on Saturday, December 2 with tip-off against SNHU set for 1:30 p.m. as the front end of a doubleheader with the men's team.
