THE LEAD
Taking the court one more time before the Holiday hiatus, the New Haven men's basketball welcomes Georgian Court to West Haven for the final game of a three-game homestand. New Haven looks to build off of home win over Adelphi that broke a six-game skid, while the Lions are searching to break a skid of their own, this one lasting five games.
SCOUTING NEW HAVEN
Nine games into the season and head coach Ted Hotaling continues to search for the right recipe of players with a multitude of new faces among the ingredients to choose from. Starting to find his groove, senior Davontrey Thomas (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Poughkeepsie), the leading returner from last season, has scored in double figures the past six games and eight of the nine games on the year. With his season-high 19 points against Adelphi, Thomas extended his team-lead in the scoring column with an average of 14.2 points per game. More than half of his field goals (22-of-42 total FG made) have come from outside the arc as he continues to move up the all-time lists for three pointers made and total points, becoming the newest member of the 1,000-point club during the Chargers post season run to the Elite Eight. One additional player joins him with double figures in the scoring column with freshman Jah'Likai King (Newburgh, N.Y./Newburgh Free Academy) adding 12.8 ppg after putting up his second 25+ point performance last time out against Adelphi. King is also among the leaders with 17 assists and 14 steals on the year.
SCOUTING GEORGIAN COURT
Making their first return to the court in 10 days time, the Lions are looking to snap a five-game skid when they step onto the hardwood in West Haven, with their last win coming back on November 18 against Kutztown. For the season, Georgian Court is averaging just 66.0 points per game and being outscored by an average of 21.6 ppg with their opponents averaging 87.6 ppg. Individually, two players average in double figures with Clint Wright, Jr. leading the team at 18.3 ppg, shooting 53% on the year with more than half (25) of his 44 field goals coming from long range. Additionally, he is among the leaders with 16 assists. Following him in the scoring column is Amari Jones who leads thet eam from the field at 54.7% (29-of-53) with an average of 10.0 ppg.
