WHAT'S ON TAP
After a break for the holidays, the New Haven women's basketball team gets back to work with its final game in this calendar year when they host the District of Columbia Firebirds to West Haven. New Haven looks to build on the momentum of a home win over Georgian Court as they close out a four-game homestand against UDC.

SCOUTING NEW HAVEN
Sophomore Lindsay Hogan (Bayville, N.Y./Locust Valley) has filled the void left by the loss of two of the top three scorers from a year ago as she is averaging 14.1 points across the first eight games of the year, including a career-high 30 points in the season opener against Wilmington. Graduate student Aurora Deshaies (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden) has also picked up where she left off last season, averaging 12.3 points per game and 10.1 rebounds per game to complete a double double, one of two players in the NE10 to average double figures in both scoring and rebounding. As of late the experience of juniors Charlotte Bassett (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) and Nayeli Dowding (Baldwin, N.Y./Baldwin) has played a big role with Bassett increasing her point per game average by more than two points, scoring 40 points over the last three games. Dowding has added 22 points in that same stretch and both are now averaging over 7.0 points per game. In the backcourt, fifth-year head coach Debbie Buff turned to the experience of senior Gabrielle Stickle (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) to run the offense and she hasn't disappointed as she has dished out 33 assists and is second in the NE10 with 4.1 per game. Included for Stickle is a pair of games with a career-high eight assists versus Goldey-Beacom and Georgian Court. Despite the 3-5 overall record, New Haven is outscoring opponents by an average of 7.8 points per game, scoring 80+ in the first two games of the season, after hitting that scoring mark just once all of last season. All combined, the Chargers are shooting 41.0 percent (188-458) as a team, led by Deshaies who is shooting 47.8 percent from the field (44-92).

SCOUTING UDC
After opening up the season winners in its first 11 games, UDC has now dropped its last two, including its most recent at the hands of the Adelphi Panthers just before the holiday break. As a team, the Firebirds are averaging 71.5 points per game with four players leading the way averaging in double figures. Overall, Destiny Ryles leads the team with her 14.8 ppg average, however she struggles from the field, connecting on just 45-of-157 while the other half of her points have come at the free throw line where she is 96-of-133. Following her in the scoring column is Tori Williams at 14.4 ppg, while she is also second on the team in the rebounding battle with an average of 7.5 per game. As a team, the Firebirds are being outrebounded on the year 46.1 to 44.7.

SERIES HISTORY vs UDC

·        New Haven and UDC meet for the fourth time in the history of the two programs, however they have not met since the 2011-12 season.

·        UDC holds a 3-0 record in the previous three games.

·        Two of the three meetings have come at Charger Gym, including the most recent, a 65-61 UDC win.

NEXT TIME OUT
New Haven will spend the beginning part of its 2024 schedule on the road with the next two games slated to take place away from West Haven. After wrapping up its non-conference action this afternoon against UDC, the Chargers will return to league play just after the New Year at Saint Michael's on Wednesday, January 3rd with a 5:30 p.m. tip off opening up a doubleheader with the men's team. All of the action will be available live on the Chargers Sports Network on NE10Now.tv
