THE LEAD
The second of three-straight home games welcomes the Adelphi Panthers to the Hazell Athletic Center on Tuesday night for the final NE10 game in the 2023 calendar year. The Chargers will look to close out the first portion of their league schedule with a win which would break a six-game skid.
SCOUTING NEW HAVEN
Eight games into the season and head coach Ted Hotaling continues to search for the right recipe of players with a multitude of new faces among the ingredients to choose from. Starting to find his groove, senior Davontrey Thomas (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Poughkeepsie), the leading returner from last season, has scored in double figures the past five games and seven of the eight games on the year. With his 17 points against Assumption to close out the month of November, Thomas moved into the lead position in the scoring column with an average of 13.6 points per game. More than half of his field goals (20-of-35 total FG made) have come from outside the arc as he continues to move up the all-time lists for three pointers made and total points, becoming the newest member of the 1,000-point club during the Chargers post season run to the Elite Eight. Two additional players join him with double figures in the scoring column with true freshman Jah'Likai King (Newburgh, N.Y./Newburgh Free Academy) adding 11.1 ppg and junior college transfer Keith Warren (Rochester, N.Y./McQuaid Jesuit) adding 10.6 ppg. Warren has also scored in double figures in each of the last five games, including a career-high 27 points against Dominican.
SCOUTING ADELPHI
Looking to string together back-to-back wins for the second time this season, Adelphi is coming off of a three-point win over Bentley this past weekend. For the year, the Panthers are scoring 74.7 points per game, the exact same as their opponents, with a pair of Panthers averaging in double figures. Leading the team in the scoring column is Dayshaun Walton, one of five players shooting 50% or better on the season, who is averaging 16.6 points per game. Walton is not only proficient from the field he also gets to the line quite often, making 41-of-52 attempts while also leading the team with 23 assists and 11 steals. Following him in the scoring column is Elijah Lewis who is averaging 12.9 ppg.
SERIES HISTORY vs ADELPHI
·        New Haven and Adelphi meet for the 53rd time in the history of the two programs.
·        Adelphi holds a 29-23 advantage in the previous 52 games.
·        Prior to an Adelphi win in the second meeting last season, the Chargers had won four straight and seven of nine to extend close the gap in the all-time series advantage.
NEXT TIME OUT
New Haven will conclude a stretch of three-straight home games when they welcome the Georgian Court Lions to West Haven for the penultimate game of the 2023 portion of the schedule. The non-conference clash is scheduled for a 6:00 p.m. tip off with all of the action available live on NE10Now.tv.
