WHAT'S ON TAP
Searching for their first win in Northeast-10 Conference play, the Chargers continue a four-game homestand on Tuesday night when they welcome Adelphi to the Hazell Athletic Center for the final NE10 game in the 2023 portion of the schedule. A win for either team would snap a four-game skid, however the Panthers lone win on the year came against an NE10 opponent, a home win over AIC (63-58).
SCOUTING NEW HAVEN
Sophomore Lindsay Hogan (Bayville, N.Y./Locust Valley) has filled the void left by the loss of two of the top three scorers from a year ago as she is averaging 16.7 points across the first six games of the year, including a career-high 30 points in the season opener against Wilmington. Graduate student Aurora Deshaies (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden) has also picked up where she left off last season, averaging 10.7 points per game and just shy of a double double with 9.7 rebounds to her credit. The addition of transfers Makaela Johnson (Hamden, Conn./Hamden) (Saint Rose) and Nayeli Dowding (Baldwin, N.Y./Baldwin) (Hartford) has also paid off for the Chargers with Johnson averaging 6.7 points and 5.0 rebounds, while Dowding is adding 6.8 points per game. In the backcourt, fifth-year head coach Debbie Buff turned to the experience of senior Gabrielle Stickle (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) to run the offense and she hasn't disappointed as she has dished out 22 assists, 10th most in the NE10, including a career-high eight in the win over Goldey-Beacom, while scoring a season-high 11 last time out against Pace. Despite losses in its last four games, New Haven is outscoring opponents by an average of 6.7 points per game, scoring 80+ in the first two games of the season, after hitting that scoring mark just once all of last season. All combined, the Chargers are shooting 40.7 percent (140-344) as a team, led by Hogan who is shooting 53 percent from the field (37-70).
SCOUTING ADELPHI
The Panthers enter Tuesday night looking to snap a four-game skid, the last three against NE10 opponents, including a home loss to Bentley, 42-59, this past weekend. For the season, Adelphi is being outscored by its opponents at a clip of 6.4 points per game, mustering just 57.4 points as a team. Individually, two players average in double figures, led by Jenna Jordan with a 12.4 ppg average. Jordan also leads the team in rebounding at 7.9 per game. Following her in the scoring column is Rolanda Robinson at 11.6 ppg. Kaitlyn O'Connell marshals the Panthers offense, racking up 29 assists on the year, third most in the NE10.
SERIES HISTORY vs ADELPHI
·        New Haven and Adelphi meet for the 50th time in the history of the two programs.
·        New Haven holds a 27-22 record in the previous 49 games, including a sweep of the home-and-home series last season.
