SYRACUSE, N.Y – With the conclusion of the regular season on the horizon, the New Haven women's basketball team dropped its final road game 77-45 at the hands of the conference leading Le Moyne Dolphins on Saturday. With the loss, New Haven falls to 16-9 overall and 11-8 in the Northeast-10 and based on Tuesday's results can finish anywhere between fifth and seventh in the NE10 standings heading into the conference championship next weekend.
Leading the Chargers on the afternoon was rookie Lindsay Hogan (Bayville, N.Y./Locust Valley) who finished the game shooting 5-of-15 from the field with a three pointer, all adding up to 11 points. She also pulled down four boards. Following Hogan in the scoring column was Aurora Deshaies (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden) who finished with nine points while leading all players in the game with 15 rebounds.
As a team, New Haven finished the game shooting 32.1 percent from the field, connecting on 18-of-56 attempts, with four of those 18 field goals outside the three point arc. The Chargers also added five points at the free throw line in nine attempts.
The Chargers will close out the regular season on Tuesday evening when they welcome the Saint Anselm Hawks to West Haven for an NE10 battle which is slated to start at 5:30 p.m. All of the action from Charger Gymnasium can be seen live on the Charger Sports Network on NE10 NOW.
FIRST QUARTER HIGHLIGHTS
· It took nearly two minutes before either team got on the board, however it was the Chargers who did so first with Kamryn King converting the second of a set of free throw attempts.
· The Dolphins answered right away with their first field goal of the day which was also the first lead change of the game.
· New Haven would take the lead back on the next possession with a second-change bucket from Deshaies, with Le Moyne regaining its lead 11 seconds later and from that point never relinquished its advantage.
· The Dolphins built as much as an eight point lead in the first 10 minutes, that coming with 1:10 remaining before the buzzer.
· New Haven would get the final word of the quarter, with Deshaies hitting a layup just inside of a minute to cut its deficit to six at the first intermission.
SECOND QUARTER HIGHLIGHTS
· After hitting the first bucket of the quarter, the Dolphins would eventually build their lead into double digits, but it wouldn't come until three minutes in.
· The Chargers would get as close as eight in the second period, which came on back-to-back buckets from Hogan and King with 3:12 to play before halftime.
· In the final three minutes, Le Moyne would see its largest lead of the half come with 66 seconds remaining when the Dolphins leading scorer converted a pair of attempts at the free throw line.
THIRD QUARTER HIGHLIGHTS
· Just like they did in the second quarter, the Dolphins opened up the half with back-to-back buckets, this time extending their lead to 18 two-and-a-half minutes into the period.
· After the Charger picked up their first points of the half, the Dolphins continued their early scoring, extending their lead over the 20 point mark for the first time with 6:10 remaining.
· New Haven's biggest deficit they would face in the period was 30, which came with under two minutes remaining.
· The Chargers then closed out the half on an 8-2 run to go into the final intermission trailing 59-35.
FOURTH QUARTER HIGHLIGHTS
· Scoring came at a premium in the early minutes of the fourth quarter, with New Haven not getting its first points until the three minute mark when Bianca Pendleton (Accokeek, Md./New Hope Academy) scored the second of two free throws and Hogan followed her with a layup off a Dolphins turnover.
· The Dolphins answered those three New Haven points by scoring the next nine unanswered to extend their lead out to 36, which would prove to be their largest of the game.
· New Haven would end the game scoring seven of the final 10 points, with Pendleton netting the final points of the game for either team on a jumper with 40 seconds remaining.
