RINDGE, N.H. – Behind 11 players who all found the back of the cage, the New Haven women's lacrosse team stormed out to a 1-0 record in Northeast-10 Conference play with a 20-8 victory over the Franklin Pierce Ravens at Sodexo Field. With the win, New Haven improves to 2-0 on the season and 1-0 in the NE10.
Among the 11 different goal scorers, seven different player finished with at least a pair of scores, while freshman Marielle Colalillo (Manhasset, N.Y./Manhasset) and senior transfer Svannah Ernst each finished with a hat trick, the latter of which doing so against her former team. Colalillo's, making her first appearance as a Charger, three goals were part of a team-best five points as she added a pair of assists, while her three goals came on five shots, all of which were marked on goal.
Ernst, who returned to Rindge for the first time since transferring to New Haven, also saw her three goals come on five total shots, with her three goals the only three marked on goal. One of her three goals came on free position attempts, while she also added three draw controls.
Sophomore draw specialist Gianna Caprioli (Clinton Corners, N.Y./Franklin Delano Roosevelt) was one of two players to follow Colalillo with four points apiece as she finished with two goals and two assists, while adding a team-high 11 draw controls and securing four ground balls. Joining her with four points was classmate Reagan Bailey, with her four points also split evenly between goals and assists, while both of her goals came on free position attempts.
Rounding out the multi-goal scorers for the Chargers was freshman Summer Castiglione (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial), junior Olivia Tarricone (Lacey Township, N.J./Lacey Township) and senior Camryn Antler. Both of Tarricone's goals came on her only two shots in the game, while Castiglione led the Chargers on the night with seven shots. Also joining in the scoring column was junior Ivanna Hernandez (Bay Shore, N.Y./Brentwood), freshman Caitlin Seleny (Derry, N.H./Pinkerton), sophomore Lindsey Belmonte (Yaphank, N.Y./Bellport) and junior Helena Koch (Groton, Mass./Groton-Dunstable Regional).
Overall as a team, New Haven finished with 45 shots, 34 of which were marked on goal, forcing the Ravens keeper Erin Blake to rack up 14 saves. Chargers starting goalkeeper Gabby Buscemi (East Patchogue, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) finished the game with three saves.
New Haven will next take the field on Saturday, March 11 when they make their 2023 debut at Kathy Zolad Stadium with a visit from the CACC's Jefferson Rams. Opening draw is slated for 1:00 p.m. with all of the action available live on the Charger Sports Network on NE10 NOW.
