WEST HAVEN, Conn. – After surrendering two early goals, the New Haven women's lacrosse team kicked into high gear, outscoring Saint Michael's 19-2 over the final 35 minutes to score a 19-4 win over the Purple Knights in Northeast-10 action. With the victory, New Haven improves to 10-6 on the season and 7-4 in NE10 play.
Leading the Chargers on the day was three-time NE10 Rookie of the Week, freshman Marielle Colalillo (Manhasset, N.Y./Manhasset) who finished with a game-high six points on four goals and a pair of assists. Her four goals came on six total shots. Joining her in leading in the scoring column was senior Cameryn Antler (Hebron, Conn./Mercy) who matched her four-goal output.
Three other Chargers all finished with a multi-goal game, a pair of starters in Savannah Ernst (American Fork, Utah/American Fork) and Raegan Bailey (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire), while Cypress Levitt (Calais, Vt./Montpelier) came off the bench to add two goals. Of that trio, Bailey finished with four points adding two assists, while Ernst added one assist for three points.
The two assists from Colalillo and Bailey led the Chargers, with one other player finishing with a pair of assists, Caitlin Seleny (Derry, N.H./Pinkerton). As a team, New Haven net 10 assists on its 19 total goals.
Rounding out the New Haven scoring on the day was Ivana Hernandez, Lindsey Belmonte (Yaphank, N.Y./Bellport), Annie Acquavita (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire), Kyra Sparks (Jefferson, N.J./Jefferson Township) and Lucy Shafer (Haymarket, Va./Battfield). In addition to her lone goal, Acquavita and Sparks also added an assist, each finishing with two points.
As a team, New Haven finished with 17 of 25 draw controls, with a pair of players splitting the lead as Gianna Caprioli (Clinton Corners, N.Y./Franklin Delano Roosevelt) finished with a half dozen and Ernst followed with five. Defensively, New Haven also forced 14 of the Purple Knights 24 turnovers with three Chargers all recording a pair of caused turnovers; Bailey, Colalillo and Rebecca Williams (Levittown, N.Y./Division Avenue).
The Chargers will close out the regular season on Saturday afternoon when they host a second-straight home game with the Bentley Falcons visiting West Haven. Opening draw from Kathy Zolad Stadium is slated for 1:00 p.m. Prior to the game, New Haven will honor its three graduating seniors; Acquavita, Ernst and Michaela Boulay (Suffield, Conn./Suffield).
