Late Rally Not Enough as NE10 Title Quest Comes to End in QF with 14-11 Loss at Adelphi

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – A six-goal rally that spanned the final 11:36 of the game came up short for the New Haven women's lacrosse team as they dropped a 14-11 decision to the Adelphi Panthers in the quarterfinal round of the 2023 Northeast-10 Conference Championship. With the loss, New Haven stands at 11-7 on the season and will await a potential at-large bid in the NCAA Championship with the selection show slated for 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 7 on NCAA.com.

Leading the Chargers offense on the evening was a pair of underclassmen in sophomore Raegan Bailey (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire) with five points on three goals and a pair of assists and freshman Marielle Colalillo (Manhasset, N.Y./Manhasset) who led the team four goals.

One other players finished with a multiple goal afternoon as senior Cameryn Antler (Hebron, Conn./Mercy) finished with a pair of goals which came on three total shots. Senior Annie Acquavita (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire) and graduate student Savannah Ernst (American Fork, Utah/American Fork) rounded out the total scoring with one goal apiece. Freshman Caitlin Seleny (Derry, N.H./Pinkerton) joined Bailey in leading the team with a pair of assists.

Defensively, a pair of Chargers, Summer Castiglione (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) and Mia Herrera (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill), finished with two caused turnovers apiece, part of nine total for the Blue and Gold in the game. Junior goalkeeper Gabby Buscemi (East Patchogue, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) closed out the game with 14 saves while her counterpart from Adelphi had five.
