WATERBURY, Conn. – Coming off their 1-0 win in their opener against tournament host Post University, the University of New Haven Women's soccer team returned to Waterbury to take on the Cougars of Caldwell University in their second match of the week and the final game before the blue and golf make their 2023 debut at home.
The blue and gold put the pressure on the Cougars early as defender Riley Drosopoulos (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield) got the first shot for the Chargers who would tally 11 shots in the half along with logging two corner kicks in the half. Looking for the foot of the goal scorer in the Post game Macy Litalien (Fitchburg, Mass./Oakmont Regional), the Chargers locked in the Cougars for the majority of the half. In the 42 minute after subs came on for the Chargers it was Caldwell that struck beating Caitlyn Daley (Norwich, Conn./Norwich Free Academy) to break the deadlock making it 1-0 Cougars.
The Chargers down a goal came out hot in the second half putting the pressure on geting two early shots off but missing wide and high of the net. The pressure continued to mount and New Haven totalled another seven shots in the second half along with earning their third corner kick of the game. Caroline Ennis (Hamden, Conn./Hamden) had a look in the 89 minute but Cougars keeper Ariana Gaminara made the save. As the final whistle blew it was the Cougars holding on to win 1-0 as the Chargers totaled 18 shots, nine on goal along with earning three corners. Daley finished with one save on two shots on goal from Caldwell.
