MANCHESTER, New Hampshire. – As the road stand continued for the blue and gold,, the University of New Haven Women's Soccer team returned to the pitch up North in conference play as they took on the Hawks of Saint Anselm for a midday Saturday match.
The defense of the Chargers was called upon early and often as the Hawks looked to jump out early on their home pitch and make New Haven play from behind but Caitlin Daley (Norwich, Conn./Norwich Free Academy) and the back line for the Chargers held strong denying the Hawks of an opening goal. Through the first half the defense had faced 14 shots and three corners all of which were cleared away keeping things level at the half as Dailey notched four saves. The offense had their opportunities on counter attacks but high pressure kept New Haven in their half looking to the defense to dominate. The second half saw the hawks return to their game plan but New Haven continued to hold strong and keep things level. An hour into the match is when the Hawks broke through beating Daley to make it a 1-0 game. That score would hold for the remaining half hour as Daley finished with seven saves on 23 total shots, eight being on net. The offense for the blue and gold combined for eight shots four being on net.
With the road trip complete New Haven returns home to prepare for the Elm City Cup as they host their cross town rival Southern Connecticut State University in their next match looking to turn the city blue and gold.
