THE LEAD
After spending its last two games at home, the Chargers are heading on the road for a quick one-game road trip as they head to the Granite State to take on the Franklin Pierce Ravens on Wednesday night. The match-up between the Chargers and Ravens was originally scheduled for Tuesday night but was rescheduled due to expected inclement weather.
SCOUTING NEW HAVEN
New Haven looks to get back into the win column after suffering back-to-back home losses at the hands of Southern Connecticut and Saint Anselm. For much of the season thus far it has been youth that has led the way for the Chargers with two of the top three scorers in their first season of eligibility. Leading the way is true freshman Jah'Likai King (Newburgh, N.Y./Newburgh Free Academy) who will enter Wednesday night averaging 15.0 ppg. The rookie guard, who also leads the team with 36 assists and 29 steals, has scored 20+ in the last two games and five times total this season. Additionally, he has scored in double figures in each of the last four games. The other rookie that has made an impact this season is redshirt sophomore Ethan Simmon (Edison, N.J./St. Joseph Metuchen) who is third on the team averaging 11.6 ppg, while he is second overall in rebounding at 4.1 rebounds per game. Sandwiched between the two rookie is senior guard Davontrey Thomas (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Poughkeepsie) who has scored in double figures in the last 13 straight games and 14 of the 15 games this season. For the year, Thomas is averaging 14.4 ppg and leads the team from beyond the arc with 39 three pointers as he continues to streak up the all-time scoring and all-time three pointer career record lists.
SCOUTING FRANKLIN PIERCE
Easily the deepest bench in the NE10 with 20 players having played in at least two of the 15 games on the season, Franklin Pierce enters Wednesday night looking to break a six-game losing skid with its last win coming back on December 9. Despite scoring 75.2 ppg as a team, the Ravens are surrendering 85.0 ppg to their opponents while they are also being outrebounded by 4.4 rebounds per game. Individually, Sean Trumper leads the Ravens on the year averaging 18.9 ppg which is the fifth highest in the NE10, while he also leads the team in rebounding with an average of 7.9 rebounds per game. Following him in the scoring column is Ugo Nwachukwu who is averaging 13.0 ppg.
