Charger Drop Heartbreaker in Pleasantville

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – It looked like redshirt freshman Ethan Simmon (Edison, N.J./St. Joseph Metuchen) had iced the victory in the final seconds with his jumper that rattled around the iron before falling through, but the Pace Setters had more to say, draining a three pointer as the clock struck zero to close out a 56-55 win over the visiting New Haven men's basketball team.

Simmon's bucket in the final seconds gave him a dozen points for the game as he tied fellow first year Charger Jah'Likai King (Newburgh, N.Y./Newburgh Free Academy) for the team lead. Both players finished the game with five field goals on the night, two of which came from outside the arc, with Simmon leading the duo as his five came on eight attempts while King's came on 16.

Joining in on the double scoring duties on the night was graduate transfer guard Tyler Saint-Furch who finished with 10 points, also connecting on five field goals, with his coming on nine attempts. All seven players who saw time against the Setters finished with at least two points as senior Davontrey Thomas (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Poughkeepsie) followed the pair with seven and sophomore Josh Hopson and senior Sean Braithwaite (Center Moriches, N.Y./Center Moriches) each finished with a half dozen.

As a team, New Haven finished the night shooting 46.2 percent from the field, connecting on 24 field goals, in 52 attempts, with just under one-third, seven, of those field goals coming from outside the thre point arc. The Chargers also trailed the rebounding battle by a final margin of 35-28, led by Thomas who pulled down seven boards. King, in addition to his 12 points, added a game-high seven assists to extend his team lead in that category.

The road trip for the Chargers is short lived as they will return to West Haven to open up back-to-back home games at the Jeffery P. Hazell Athletic Center. First up in the two-straight at home will be a visit from the No. 11 Bentley Falcons on Saturday, January 27 with tip off scheduled for 3:30 p.m., following the women's game.
