WEST HAVEN, Conn – Late goal magic lifted the University of New Haven Chargers Women's Soccer team on the road as the Chargers drew with the Purple Knights of Saint Michael's College as Emma Mitchell (Edinburgh, Scotland/Liberton) netted her second straight last second goal for the Chargers. New Haven returned home to host the Dolphins of The College of Staten Island for a non-conference midweek match up before New Haven would have a week off before returning to NE10 play.
With a week off ahead of their next match, head coach Laura Duncan was able to get more players into the game and rest some legs before the remainder of the conference schedule. The first twenty minutes in the first half saw New Haven put the pressure on Staten Island but could not find the back of the net. It was however Staten Island that struck first on the counter attack, beating Caitlin Daley (Norwich, Conn./Norwich Free Academy) to put the Dolphins up early in the half. New Haven loved to score late and New Haven capitalized once again late. After earning a corner, Janayah Body (West Hartford, Conn./Lawrence Academy) took the corner and found the head of Madison Maxwell (West Hartford, Conn./Hall) who put it into the back of the net to tie the match at 1-1 as they headed to the break level. Out of the break and fueled by the late goal, New Haven had an early look but it was Staten Island making the big saves to deny New Haven of a second goal. The Chargers continued to pressure but would not find the back of the net as the match would end in a 1-1 draw as New Haven would draw three straight matches. Maxwell's first half goal was her first career goal in her third match for the blue and gold as Daley finished with six saves in the match.
New Haven returns home for a conference match up when they welcome the Ravens of Franklin Pierce in a midweek contest. The Ravens travel to Kathy Zolad Stadium on Tuesday, October 22 with kick-off scheduled for 4:00 PM from Kathy Zolad stadium and on the Charger Sports Network on FloSports.
