Nixon Adds to Goal Lead as Chargers Fall to Pace 2-1

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Senior Abby Nixon (Wrentham, Mass./King Phillip Regional) opened up the second quarter adding to her team lead in the goal column as she knotted the score at one before a late tally from the visiting Pace University Setters provided the final margin. With the decision, New Haven falls to 5-10 on the season and 4-6 in the Northeast-10 Conference.

The Setters struck first with a goal just 13 seconds before the horn at the end of the first quarter with Jenna McGrudden striking the backboard thanks to a forward pass from Isabella Boertjes.

New Haven didn't wait long, scoring just over five minutes into the second quarter to even the score. Kat Trammel (Sandy Hook, Conn./Newtown) began the scoring play when she sent a pass ahead to Erin Smith (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) who passed across the arc to the opposite corner where Nixon dove towards the cage and got a stick on the pass to redirect into the cage.

Pace held much of the momentum throughout the game, finishing the night with an 18-10 advantage in the shot column. New Haven keeper Cara Lambert (Sutton, Mass./Sutton Memorial) finished the night with five saves while her team provided a pair of defensive stops.

The Setters added the game-wining goal with just over six minutes remaining with Enya Manzanera scoring thanks to the assist from Krista Deitz. New Haven wouldn't go away easily, ramping up the attack by pulling the keeper and adding an extra attacker. The Chargers defense came up clutch in the final four minutes without a keeper in net, spoiling a pair of penalty corner opportunities.

New Haven will head on the road and head to the banks of Lake Champlain where they will faceoff against the Saint Michael's Purple Knights. The Northeast-10 Conference match-up is set for Saturday, October 26 with a 12:00 p.m. start on the docket. All of the action from Duffy Field in Colchester, Vt. will be carried live on NE10 Now on Flo College.
