Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Five Goals from Five Different Players, Field Hockey Back in the Win Column 5-1 over AIC

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Five different players blasted shots off the back of the cage on Saturday afternoon as the New Haven women's Field Hockey broke a four-game skid with a 5-1 win on the road over American International College. With the win, New Haven improves to 4-6 on the season and 3-2 in the Northeast-10 Conference.

The opening goal of the game came just over five minutes into the action with Paige Garrett (Fleetwood, Pa./Fleetwood Area) finding the goal for the second time this season, converting a penalty stroke, for the second time this season, with a shot to the left corner under the stick of the diving keeper.

After the Yellow Jackets tied the score in the 17th minute, the two squads played event for the next 25 minutes before Johannah Lee (State College, Pa./State College Area) scored what would be the eventual game-winning goal with just under five minutes to play in the third quarter. Lee's second goal of the season also came courtesy of a penalty corner as she sent her shot to the upper right corner of the cage.

Taking the slim lead into the third quarter break, the Chargers would break out with three insurance goals in the final period of play, the first from Sophia Ruh (Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) whose scoring play began as a penalty corner that was inserted by Kat Trammel (Sandy Hook, Conn./Newtown). Ruh would collect the pass from Trammel and drilled a shot from the top of the arc that deflected off a defenders stick into the goal.

Sydney Moda (Methuen, Mass./Central Catholic) would add the second insurance goal just ahead of the then minute mark as Garrett chipped in a pass that Moda collected and snuck a shot just inside the right upright for her second goal of the year.

Erin Smith (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) would net the final goal of the night, her team-leading fourth of the season with Lee collecting another point with her first assist of the year. The goal, which came with 58 seconds remaining began as Lee fired a hard shot form just inside the arc that Smith redirected to the backboard.

New Haven will return home for its next game as it welcomes the Southern Connecticut Owls to DellaCamera Stadium on Wednesday, October 9 with the rivalry game set to start at 7:00 p.m. with all of the action live on NE10 Now on Flo Sports.
