NEW HAVEN, Conn. – In their final regular season match of the year, the University of New Haven Women's Soccer team made the short trip to Southern Connecticut State University to take on the Owls as New Haven looked to sweep their cross town rivals and clinch a spot in the NE10 postseason.
Going into the break it was the Chargers working from behind as the Owls scored a pair of first half goals as Caitlin Daley (Norwich, Conn./Norwich Free Academy) faced 12 goals making six saves on the eight shots on goal. Coming out of the half, Southern Connecticut State added another pair of goals on New Haven early in the second but New Haven quickly mounted their comeback. Angelina Schilling (Sewell, N.J./Deptford Township) found some space in the box in the 69 minute and turned, scoring the opening goal for New Haven in the match and putting New Haven on the board. That goal opened the floodgates and New Haven continued to put the pressure on Southern Connecticut as the Owls conceded an own goal to make it a two goal game. Two goals is said the be the most dangerous lead in soccer and New Haven quickly cut the lead even more, as Alida Bates (Danville, N.H./Timberlane Regional) broke free and beat the keeper to the low left corner of the goal making it 3-4 in the 79 minute. Southern Connecticut, feeling the momentum completely shifting were on their heels and New Haven kept on the Owls as it was Caroline Ennis (Hamden, Conn./Hamden) in the 89 minute beating the keep, placing her shot into the upper left corner on a pass from Bates to tie the match 4-4. Coming from trailing by four goals New Haven had three goal scorers along with the own goal, and Daley on the match, making nine saves on 13 shots faced on goal in the draw.
