Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Thomas Led a Trio in Double Figures as Men's Basketball Faces Saint Michael's

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – With his game-high 22 points on Saturday, senior Davontrey Thomas (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Poughkeepsie) vaulted up two positions on the all-time scoring list while leading the Chargers in a home rematch against the Siant Michael's Purple Knights.

Thomas was one of three Chargers to finish in double figures with his 22 points representing the only player in the game to top the 20-point mark as he was joined by freshman Jah'Likai King (Newburgh, N.Y./Newburgh Free Academy) and sophomore Joshua Hopson (Jersey City, N.J./MacDuffie School) who finished with 16 and 10 points, respectively.

For the game, the Chargers senior guard shot 9-of-16 from the field, with four of his nine field goals coming from outside the three-point arc. King followed him shooting an even 50% from the field as he connected on 7-of-14 with a pair of three-point field goals.

Joining in the scoring efforts for New Haven was redshirt freshman Ethan Simmon (Edison, N.J./St. Joseph Metuchen) who added nine points and graduate transfer point guard Tyler Saint-Furcy (Inwood, N.Y./Lawrence Woodmere Academy) who rounded out the Chargers scoring with two points as all of New Haven's 59 points came from their starting five. This is the second straight game all of New Haven's scoring has come from its starting five.

Hopson added to his 10 points with 12 rebounds to complete his second double double of the season while his 12 boards led New Haven to a 38-37 lead in the battle of the boards. Following Hopson in that column was Thomas who added a half dozen while all eight of the Chargers who saw time finished with at least one rebound.

The Chargers also finished the game with 19 assists, the second most this season for the Blue and Gold with Saint-Furcy who dished out a career-high seven assists.

Renewing the Rivalry! The Chargers will once again face their crosstown rival when they take to the court next time out at Southern Connecticut State University. The rematch of a SCSU win earlier this season is scheduled for Tuesday, February 13 with tip off at the Moore Field House scheduled for 7:30 p.m. All of the action from the conference battle will be available live on NE10Now.tv
