Deshaies and Hogan in Double Figures as Chargers Fall at SCSU

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – One of two players in double figures, graduate post player Aurora Deshaies (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden) led the New Haven women's basketball team as they dropped a road decision against the Southern Connecticut Owls on Tuesday night.

Deshaies closed out the night with a dozen points, connecting on 4-of-6 from the field and adding 4-of-5 at the free throw line. Overall, she was one of two Chargers to finish in double figures joined by sophomore guard Lindsay Hogan (Bayville, N.Y./Locust Valley) who finished with 11. The outside shooting threat for the Chargers, Hogan finished with three three-point field goals as she was 4-of-8 total for the game.

As a team, New Haven finished the game shooting 38.6 percent from the field, connecting on 17-of-44 field goal attempts with the three three-pointers from Hogan part of five total for the team. The Chargers were also 14-of-17 at the free throw line.

Following the two leading scorers was sophomore Charlotte Bassett (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) with nine points, senior Gabrielle Stickle (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) with eight points and graduate transfer Makaela Johnson (Hamden, Conn./Hamden) with seven points. Junior Bianca Pendleton (Accokeek, Md./New Hope Academy) rounded out the Chargers scoring with a half dozen, the only player to score off the bench.

New Haven also trailed in the battle of the boards by a 31-28 margin with Deshaies again leading the way in that column with eight rebounds. Deshaies also finished with a team-high three steals.

Looking to send off the seniors in style, New Haven will return back to the friendly confines of the Jeffery P. Hazell Athletic Center the next time they take the court when the American International Yellow Jackets visit West Haven on Saturday, February 17. Prior to the game, New Haven will honor five graduating seniors - Aurora Deshaies (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden), Makaela Johnson (Hamden, Conn./Hamden), Mary Bacaliu, Gabby Stickle and Becca Townes (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Our Lady of Lourdes).
