WHAT'S ON TAP
Back home for our final weekend home game as we look to get back in the win column and send our seniors off in style. Prior to tip off against the Yellow Jackets, the Chargers will honor five of their own who will complete their eligibility; Aurora Deshaies (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden), Gabrielle Stickle (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt), Makaela Johnson (Hamden, Conn./Hamden), Marigona Bacaliu (Worcester, Mass./Putnam Science Academy) and Becca Townes (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Our Lady of Lourdes).
MILESTONE WATCH
In addition to honoring Deshaies prior to the game, the Chargers will be on the lookout for rebounds for Deshaies as she needs just six rebounds to become the fourth player in program history to pull down at least 1,000 rebounds.
SCOUTING NEW HAVEN
A conference leading, and top-20 in the nation, 10 double doubles from graduate post player Aurora Deshaies (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden) and she is one of the key leaders for the Chargers, averaging 12.0 points and an NE10 leading 10.6 rebounds. Also on a hot streak is junior guard Charlotte Bassett (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) who has scored in double figures in 11 of the last 17 games, including career-highs of 22 points against Georgian Court and 24 against Saint Michael's while adding her first double double (15 points, 10 rebounds) against Franklin Pierce and another against Saint Michael's. Her recent success has also moved her up the scoring column, currently second on the team with an average of 10.2 ppg. Rounding out the trio of top scorers is sophomore Lindsay Hogan (Bayville, N.Y./Locust Valley) who has helped fill the void left by the loss of two of the top three scorers from a year ago as she is averaging 10.0 points per game. The Chargers have relied on the experience of senior Gabrielle Stickle (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) to run the offense and she has not disappointed, dishing out 69 assists and is 7th in the NE10 with 3.2 per game. Included for Stickle is a pair of games with a career-high eight assists versus Goldey-Beacom and Georgian Court. As a team, New Haven is averaging 57.2 points per game, scoring 80+ in the first two games of the season, after hitting that scoring mark just once all of last season. All combined, the Chargers are shooting 39.2 percent (480-1,223) as a team, led by Aurora Deshaies (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden) who is shooting 50.0 percent from the field (113-226).
SCOUTING AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL
With its 7-11 NE10 record the Yellow Jackets are just barely in position to host a first round game in the upcoming Northeast-10 Conference Championship, currently with a one-game lead over Saint Anselm for the final position to host the opening round. In order to maintain that slim advantage, the Yellow Jackets will need to break their current three-game skid with just one win in the month of February coming against Franklin Pierce. For the season, AIC is averaging 64.8 points per game while surrendering almost the exact same average to their opponents. Individually, AIC is led in the scoring and rebounding columns by Briana Lee who is putting up 17.5 and 9.3 per game averages, respectively. In addition, she leads the team with 53 steals. Joining her in averaging double figures in the scoring column is Kayla Robinson (13.1 ppg) and Ruzgar Christina Boyle (10.7 ppg).
