WINTER HAVEN, Florida. – Coming off a tough test against th Lewis and No. 7 Indianapolis the University of New Haven Softball team returned to the diamond for a pair of games first with a morning game against Slippery Rock before taking on  Caldwell in the afternoon.

Breanna Kinney (Minnetonka, Minn./Minnetonka) got the nod again and bounced back in the circle throwing six scoreless innings of work giving up only two hits across that span sitting the batters down in order from Slippery Rock. New Haven struck first in the seventh as Ashley Veisz (Robbinsville,N.J./Robbinsville) with one out tripled to the fence in right field putting the pressure on. Bella Chenet (Plantation, Fla./Archbishop McCarthy) would come up to bat next and cash in for the Chargers singling to left scoring Veisz and putting New Haven up in the seventh. With the lead Kinney went to work in the circle but Slippery Rock was able to respond after a lead off double laying down a sacrifice to score the tying run of the game forcing it to extras. After coming up just short in the top of the eighth New Haven went to play defense. Slippery Rock in the home eighth dropped a sacrifice bunt down to advance the runner from second to third before a single to center scored the winning run. Kinney in the circle threw 7.1 innings of work giving up five hits with both runs being unearned in the tough loss. Heading into game two the Chargers looked for another dominant performance and get the bats going. In the first inning Caldwell would finish Marzia Johnson (Branford, Conn./Branford)s day after five batters scoring seven in the top half of the inning forcing New Haven to start to chip away at the score. In the home half New Haven started to work after Olivia Roberto (Merrick, N.Y./Calhoun) drew and walk and advanced to second on Lauren Haversat (Seymour, Conn./Seymoour)s single to right. Brianna Trueman (Trout Run, Pa./Montoursville Area) came up with the big hit singling to left on a 1-2 pitch scoring Roberto and putting New Haven on the board. After Caldwell added two more runs New Haven added their next run in the bottom of the third. The Chargers would lead off the inning with back to back singles by Roberto and Haversat, before Trueman would drive in her second run of the day with the third straight single, scoring Roberto again making it 10-2. The bats would continue with a fourth single by Luccia Ceccarelli to load the bases.Corina Wilton (Red Bank, N.J./Red Bank Catholic) would ground out to the first baseman putting the ball in play and scoring Haversat from third.
