Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Hot Start for Chargers Comes Up Short Versus No. 3 Adelphi

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The New Haven women's lacrosse team scored on the opening possession of the game and went on to score four unanswered goals to open up the afternoon, but the No. 3 Adelphi Panthers proved why there are a top-three team, erasing the deficit in the second half to take an 11-8 NE10 win over the Chargers.

The loss, which breaks a four-game win streak for the Blue and Gold, is just the third in NE10 play this season and has the Chargers standing at 9-5 on the season and 6-3 in the league with two games remaining in the regular season.

Transfer midfielder Katie Schenk (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug) scored the first goal for the Chargers and two in that opening rally as she went on to close out the day leading New Haven with four points on three goals and an assist. Two of her three goals came on free position attempts. One other Chargers finished with a multi-goal outing as Caitlin Seleny (Derry, N.H./Pinkerton) finished the day with two.

Rounding out New Haven's scoring was Gianna Caprioli (Clinton Corners, N.Y./Franklin Delano Roosevelt), Cameryn Antler (Hebron, Conn./Mercy) and Ivanna Hernandez (Bay Shore, N.Y./Brentwood) who all scored one with Caprioli and Antler both converting on free position shots. The assist from Schenk was the only of the day for New Haven. Caprioli also added a team-high six ground balls to her line.

Between the pipes, senior Gabby Buscemi (East Patchogue, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) had a strong outing despite the loss, stopping nine total shots on the afternoon.

As a team, the Chargers continued its strong showing in the circle, winning 14 of the 22 draw controls on the day. Leading the way individually was Schenk and Cypress Levitt (Calais, Vt./Montpelier) who each pulled in five, while Summer Castiglione (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) finished with four.

The Chargers will close out their regular season home schedule on the weekend when they welcome the Franklin Pierce Ravens to West Haven and Kathy Zolad Stadium. Opening draw in the NE10 battle is set for 1:00 p.m., however prior to opening draw, New Haven will honor its 11 member senior class.
