Softball Falls to Ravens in Final Regular Season Games

RINDGE, New Hampshire . With their final regular season game of the year the University of New Haven Softball team took on the Ravens of Franklin Pierce to wrap up the road stand and the season.

Breanna Kinney (Minnetonka, Minn./Minnetonka) got the start in the circle looking to bounce back and get back in the win column as she hunted for her fifth win of the season from the circle. Kinney would limit Franklin Pierce to only two hits all afternoon; however a first inning home run by the Ravens being one of the two hits proved to be the difference in the opening game. Kinney settled in after the home run allowing only one hit the rest of the game and hanging five consecutive zeros on the scoreboard to keep her team in the hunt. While allowing only one hit across the rest of the game Kinney struck out four batters in the one run game. Brianna Trueman (Trout Run, Pa./Montoursville Area) and Ashley Veisz (Robbinsville,N.J./Robbinsville) each had a hit for the chargers with Trueman ripping a double, but New Haven would fall in game one 1-0 to Franklin Pierce. Quiet bats was the story of the second game, but in the fourth inning New Haven was the first to strike as Trueman ripped her second hit of the afternoon and second extra base hit of the afternoon with a one out triple. Meg Anderson (Cranston, R.I./Cranston) came into the box and grounded into a fielder's choice where Trueman scored giving the blue and gold their first lead of the afternoon. With the lead Viana McKinley (North Chesterfield, Va./Monacan) continued to deal, but in the sixth gave up a run to tie things up before a walk off for the Ravens in the seventh took game two by a final of 2-1.

With the season complete the Chargers will now look to head coach Kelley Pattersons second season to rebuild with a strong underclassmen core and build off the positives of the season and jump into a new year for the blue and gold.
