Hernandez's Three Goals Leads Chargers in NCAA Opening Round vs Adelphi

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Making its second-straight appearance in the NCAA Division II Women's Lacrosse Championship, the New Haven Chargers dropped an 18-6 decision to the East Region No. 3 seed Adelphi Panthers, seeing its season come to a conclusion with a 12-7 overall record.

Leading the Chargers on the day was senior Ivanna Hernandez (Bay Shore, N.Y./Brentwood) who was responsible for half of the six New Haven goals, registering her sixth hat trick of the season, including her third against a national ranked opponent. The remaining three goals from the Chargers were split across a pair of players with two coming from graduate attack Katie Schenk (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug) and the final from Caitlyn Seleny. All six of New Haven's goals went unassisted, while one came on a free position attempt, that from Hernandez on her only free position attempt.

In the cage, senior Gabby Buscemi (East Patchogue, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) played the full 60 minutes for New Haven as she racked up five saves to conclude her career with 609 saves, second most among all keepers in program history.

Overall for the game, New Haven took 18 total shots with 12 total placed on goal, the five goals and seven which forced Adelphi's keeper into action. The Chargers did close out the game with an advantage in the draw column where they secured 15 compared to 12 for the Panthers. Leading the way was Schenk who hauled in nine of the 15.
