Men’s Soccer Suffers First Setback in 2024

HARTFORD, Conn. – Playing under the lights in the home of the United Soccer League's Hartford Athletic, the New Haven men's soccer team suffered its first defeat of the season, 1-0 at the hands of the in-state rival Post Eagles. With the decision, New Haven stands at 3-1-1 on the season.

After a scoreless opening half, the Eagles broke through in the 62nd minute with Markus Tunge connecting with Simon Hemler for the lone notch on the scoreboard.

Overall for the game, it was evenly matched in the shot column with each team recording a dozen shots with New Haven placing four on goal and the Eagles placing five on target. Charger goalkeeper Archie Watts (Bristol, England/SGS College) finished the night with four saves.

The Chargers will return to the Elm City when they next take the pitch as they turn the page to Northeast-10 Conference play and host the Saint Michael's Purple Knights at Kathy Zolad Stadium. Opening kickoff in the conference opener is slated for 7:00 p.m. with all of the action available on NE10 Now on Flo Sports.
